What will I be doing?

The position of the Human Resources Manager is a leadership in our organization supporting the businesses and defining the culture. They will provide advice and guidance to managers and employees on a broad range of Human Resources programs and practices. The ideal candidate has extensive Human Resources and employee relations experience and is skilled in influencing people and building collaborative relationships. The Manager will bring to this role a broad background, with experience in, recruitment, onboarding, training and development, labour relations, workplace investigations, compensation and benefits, payroll, policy development, legislative compliance and a passion for growing, developing, and leading teams.

This position is a temporary contract covering a Maternity Leave of absence and will be approximately 14 months.

HR Manager Responsibilities:

  • Leads HR strategies and initiatives across the corporate group.
  • Responsible for developing effective relationships with key business leaders at the Senior/VP/Ownership level by providing strategic advice and direction on business issues with HR impacts.
  • Provides leadership, direction and coaching regarding all HR related matters, to the management teams of 3 hotels and 8 restaurant outlets.
  • Leads a team of 7 HR team members, providing guidance, support and mentorship.
  • Develops and maintains HR policies and provides instruction on the application and execution of these across the corporate group.
  • Responsible for maintaining positive labour relations with 3 bargaining units.
  • Identifies trends, gaps, and challenges; executes solution-focused strategies and programs to ensure best practice, compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Assists with managerial recruitment and onboarding ensuring all properties are staffed and new employees trained in order to maximize effective leadership, revenue and guest service.
  • Responsible for leveraging available immigration avenues and submitting LMIA applications.
  • Develops individualized learning & development programs for each property.
  • Addresses leadership development needs in support of organizational goals, enhancing skills and competencies for existing people managers and targeted development programs for emerging leaders.
  • Assists with difficult workplace injury related claims, including representing the enterprise in tribunals with counsel.
  • Conducts internal investigations as appropriate.
  • Represents the Company with counsel in litigation.
  • Acts as a leader in fostering unique workplace culture in each hotel/outlet across the corporate group.

HR Manager Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in HR Management
  • 5+ years experience in all aspects of Human Resources
  • 3+ years experience in a Human Resources management role
  • Strong working knowledge of various related legislation, such as Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact and build relationships proactively with employees at all levels
  • Highly developed organizational, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Is detail oriented and have strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Proficiency with MS Office, outlook and related business tools
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is an asset
  • Strong English language verbal and written skills

  • Niagara Falls, ON L2G 3V9: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
