The Ministry of Social Services, Income Assistance Service Delivery Division is seeking an Income Assistance Worker.
The Income Assistance Service Delivery Division is committed to investing in positive outcomes for clients in the areas of income support and services so clients can regain their financial independence to the best of their ability.
Income Assistance Workers work closely with a diverse clientele to help them maximize their independence, autonomy and quality of life. As a part of a larger team of professionals, you will:
- Work with clients in person and on the phone using various interviewing and supportive counselling techniques;
- Assess needs through a strength-based and solution-focused case management model while using the clients own motivations for change and commitment;
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust case plans in collaboration with the client to establish goals and meet diverse needs;
- Determine eligibility for Income Assistance benefits, and other community referral services/resources; and
- Work jointly with clients, other ministry partners and community organizations to develop mutually agreeable plans with them to help regain their financial independence to the best of their ability.
The successful candidate will have experience with case management including interviewing, assessing, planning, and referring services and/or supports. You will also have experience working with diverse and multicultural individuals/families who may face multiple barriers and challenges, such as addictions, mental illness, disability and unemployment. You will also be able to manage conflict in a calm, rational and respectful manner.
Typically, the knowledge of Income Assistance work is obtained through the completion of a post-secondary education in the human services field.
