Intern, EDUCATION & Events
PURPOSE
As part of the Education & Events team at OPPI, the successful candidate will support the development and delivery of the Institute’s education workshops and events. Including the Institute’s annual Conference being held in Hamilton, Ontario from September 24-27, 2024. You will be involved in various aspects including event management, event logistics, event communications, customer service, and assisting with in-person and virtual workshops and events.
This is a paid, full-time opportunity from May to September.
ABOUT OPPI
The Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is the recognized voice of Ontario’s planning profession with over 4,600 members who work in government, private practice, universities, and not-for-profit agencies in the fields of urban and rural development, community design, environmental planning, transportation, health, social services, heritage conservation, housing, and economic development. Our student members attend undergraduate and graduate planning programs at six accredited Ontario universities.
Members must meet quality practice requirements and are accountable to OPPI and the public to practice ethically and to abide by a Professional Code of Practice. Only full OPPI members are authorized by the Ontario Professional Planners Institute Act, 1994, to use the title Registered Professional Planner (or RPP).

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
· Assisting with event registration and list management for events.
· Communicating with event organizers (including OPPI staff, volunteers, facilitators, vendors, and partner organizations).
· Customer support for event registrants/prospective registrants.
· Planning and ordering food and beverages for OPPI in-person events and meetings.
· Communications and logistical support for speakers and volunteers.
· List management and badging for registrations, staff, OPPI Council, VIPs, volunteers.
· Offsite event management including social events and paid tours.
· On-the-ground support during events including assistance at registration desk, volunteer management, and set-up/teardown.
· Other duties to support OPPI staff as they pertain to planning and execution of events as required.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS
· Delivers first-class experiences and high-touch service levels in their work.
· Experience in planning and assisting with events is preferred.
· Communicates in a calm and effective manner, both verbally and written communication.
· Ability to efficiently multi-task, organize, prioritize, and adapt in a fast-paced work environment.
· Resourcefulness and creativity.
· A team-player who can adapt easily to assist where needed and work well in a team environment.
· Computer Literacy in a Windows environment including database management Microsoft Office Suite and website navigation.
· This is a hybrid position. You will be required to be on-site at OPPI headquarters (Toronto, ON) for in-office days and in-person events. You will require access to Internet and a work space for days that you work from home.
· Experience with event management platforms such as Pheedloop, Monday.com, OpenWater or Cvent is an asset.
· Prior experience supporting large-scale events such as a conference is an asset.
EDUCATION
· Post-secondary student currently enrolled in events planning/management program.
