With Splatsin culture and connection to the land guiding the Cultural Heritage department the position will balance conservation and economic development through innovative and practical solutions. This position works with industry partners and clients ensure an adaptive and culturally appropriate approach.
The Cultural Heritage team works daily alongside of skilled professionals and certified technicians, will assist in the delivery of industry and private sector project. The Splatsin Development Corporation Cultural Heritage Department are direct partners in resource management and sustainable development.
Reporting directly to Yucwmenlúcwu’s Cultural Heritage Supervisors, Yucwmenlucwu Junior Technicians will assist with the implementation and delivery of field programs and office based tasks in the area of Yucwmenlucwu Cultural Heritage. This role takes on higher reporting skill requirements, and supervisory requirements as experience is gained.
Various training and mentoring opportunities will be provided for those wishing to advance their skills and knowledge.
Work is in a field-based environment with associated office-based tasks. Work will generally be marshalled out of the Yucwmenlúcwu office in Enderby, but out of town work and camp shifts are to be expected. Field workdays start at 7:00 am and are 10 hours long.
Position responsibilities
- Participate in training and mentorship programs
- Excellent knowledge base and understanding of navigation to and from work site and the use of truck radios while driving on FSR
- Excellent knowledge base of plant and tree species
- Assistance in creating and writing referral and reports as required.
- Conduct forestry, environment, archaeology, and Cultural Heritage field assessments
- Collect field data, observations, and samples according to study designs
- Monitor construction works and ensure compliance to environmental and archaeology regulations and best management practices
- Participate in staff meetings
- Active participation in the Yucwmenlúcwu Safety Management System
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
Previous experience in the fields of forestry, environment, archaeology, and/or Cultural Heritage an asset
- Available access to transportation to and from work
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- General computer skills and experience with MS office Suite
- Previous experience using handheld radios, GPS, and iPads
- Driver’s License with a clean Drivers Abstract is an asset
