- Follow all health and safety initiatives and exhibit safety leadership throughout the plant.
- Operates laboratory and quality control equipment in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with environmental regulations and plant standards.
- Reports any test results falling outside of quality parameters
- Performs sample preparation, chemical and physical tests and analysis as per applicable standards and SOP.
- Carry out routine monitoring of all analysis methods as outlined in the Quality Management system for alternative fuel
- Performs adjustments and minor repairs to equipment as required.
- Inspects laboratory and quality control equipment on a regular basis and prepares work orders as required.
- Performs and maintains calibration of all laboratory equipment.
- Uses internal Technical Information Systems (TIS) to report analysis results
- Prepares chemical solutions required in chemical analysis.
- Orders and receives chemicals, equipment and spare parts as required.
- Ensures proper disposal of chemicals and samples.
- Works with other departments to solve quality related problems.
- Inputs and reports operating statistics
- Maintains a clean work environment.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Participate in environmental and health and safety improvement projects.
- Work with the highest standards of plant and personal Safety, Environment and Quality. Support the mandates and objectives of other departments to ensure the overall profitability and success of Richmond, the Pacific Northwest Business unit and Lafarge.
- Routine analysis of all alternative fuel & raw material products to ensure quality control.
- Participate in regular safety meetings and inspections.
- Support initiatives of the Lafarge Internal Audit and ISO programs. Support and follow publication of Lafarge Best Practices (LQTS). Be a resource as requested in Cross Functional Teams (plant-based and company driven, including Best Practices and Internal Auditor teams)
- The Lab Technician reports to the Quality Supervisor who reports to the Optimization Manager
- External candidates for the Lab Technician position must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Two to three years experience as a chemist in heavy industry or contract laboratory is considered beneficial.
- The incumbent must have good troubleshooting abilities, communication skills, resistance to stress, and an ability to move towards a common goal to meet the departmental objectives.
