The Lead, Communications, will be expected to provide support to projects and initiatives being administered by Ontario Health. The Lead will play a vital role in providing effective organizational communications both internally and externally through the development of communication plans, materials and documents and by ensuring that communications demonstrate clarity, attention to detail and professionalism. The Lead is also responsible for SharePoint updates and designing assets for communications materials.
Here is what you will be doing:
- Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Lead will work collaboratively with all divisions of Ontario Health as well as external health care stakeholders to provide communications leadership.
- Works with the Director on special projects such as internal SharePoint, newsletters, communications tools and processes with staff
- The Lead will develop and implement communications strategies, plans and tools that will meet the needs of various programs/initiatives or the organization as a whole.
- The Lead will interview, write and edit across the full spectrum of communication tools including briefing notes, patient stories, news releases, brochures, newsletters, scripts, posters, presentations, etc.
- The Lead will develop content, images for various channels such as social media platforms including drafting posts and choosing visuals for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube and internal communications channels.
- The Lead will monitor traditional and social media platforms and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Ensures consistency of Ontario Health branding and key messaging.
- Supports external events through the development of event work plans, media releases and photo ops, and work effectively with multiple levels of government to ensure appropriate protocol.
- Supports partner and stakeholder relations by establishing long-term relationships utilizing strategic planning and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Sits as a member of various committees and working groups as a communications lead, with the ability to provide necessary updates, decisions and call-to-actions.
- Work with other team members to improve overall team use of best practice in decision of ongoing operational processes
- Builds relationships and work with various stakeholders groups to leverage the partners' existing communication channels to achieve communication strategies as appropriate.
- Identifies, develops and manages new communication strategies, tools and tactics as required.
- Development of patient, volunteer and staff stories.
- Act as coverage for the Director, Communications, and Communications Managers, , to provide day-today operational guidance and/or mentorship to team members
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
- University degree or post-graduate college diploma in communications, or equivalent with a minimum of five to seven years of experience in an intermediate communications role
- High proficiency in SharePoint and MS365 environments
- Change Management experience is an asset
- Strong writing, editing and proof-reading skills to draft, edit, research, and write communications products (briefing notes news releases, newsletters, website content, etc.)
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
- High proficiency in using Content Management Systems and social media platforms for the workplace
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to plan strategically and work in a complex, fast-paced environment
- Ability to take complex medical and health care information and simplify for a general audience.
- Experience juggling multiple priorities, meeting tight deadlines and working independently
- Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships with multiple and diverse stakeholders including healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, and a variety of community health care providers
- Strong oral communication skills to respond to inquiries, serve as a liaison with various system representatives, and present at system tables
- Ability to assess communication requirements for target audiences and develop communication strategies, products and services to meet identified communications objectives as well as implement communication plans, work back schedules and event work plans
- Experience working in a health care communications role (preferred)
