Role description:
The role of Manager, Data Governance and Quality is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive data and information governance strategies, policies, and processes. The Manager's primary objective will be to ensure the accuracy, availability, integrity, and standardization of data and/or information assets while complying with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The Manager will partner with various business leads across CN to develop, implement and manage these policies ensuring organization compliance through routine evaluation. The manager leads a team focused on Data Governance, Data Quality and Data Privacy team and ensures that all business requirements are met by the team members, and contributes to the global evolution of CN's I&T. The manager is a key player in the organization, ensuring his/her team delivers solutions that are secured, reliable, available, resilient, performant, and aligned with business requirements and architecture patterns.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented leader, possesses strong analytical skills, and has a deep understanding of data and information management and governance principles.
Main Responsibilities:
People Leadership
·Focuses on communications and fosters collaboration by regularly providing updates to teams about ongoing initiatives and encouraging teams to work together to accomplish common goals and learning.
·Creates and enables a positive and engaging work environment by ensuring individual strengths are uncovered and leveraged through frequent and focused conversations - collaborates, coaches, and builds connections with employees.
·Partners with HR to bring new talent to the organization by determining which skills and roles will be required in the future and by making thoughtful hiring decisions promoting diversity.
·Provides a positive and welcoming onboarding experience to all new employees by ensuring they have access to the tools and resources needed to fulfill the requirements of their job.
·Recognizes employee milestones (service awards, retirements, etc.) as well as significant contributions and enhanced responsibilities.
·Participates in succession planning by contributing to the yearly talent review cycle and identifying employees with the potential to move up the management and technical paths.
·Creates a competence Development plan for the team and supports employee development by having regular career conversations with all employees (documented and tracked) and supporting them in reaching their career goals.
·Ensures knowledge is preserved through cross-training, lunch & learns type of sessions, etc., for key skill sets in the team and within the organization (knowledge transfer).
·Manages employee performance by ensuring employees who are not meeting expectations are identified and supported through the performance improvement process.
·Leads a team of 5-10 full time employees and from ~0-20 consultants (as needed basis)
Governance Leadership
·Develop and implement a robust information and Data Governance framework in partnership with other Data leads, and in alignment with organizational objectives and industry best practices.
·Design, document, and enforce governance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data quality, integrity, and accessibility throughout its lifecycle.
·Develop and implement data privacy policies and procedures to ensure that personally identifiable information and other critical information are protected.
·Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, classify, and inventory information assets, and establish ownership and accountability.
·Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure Information and Data governance initiatives align with business requirements and strategic goals.
·Define and enforce policies for information and data stewardship, access, and usage to ensure compliance with relevant privacy regulations.
·Lead efforts to develop and maintain information and data management strategies, including data acquisition, data privacy, data catalog, data quality processes and information delivery.
Requirements
Education & Experience
·Minimum 7-15 years overall work experience, with a gradual evolution from software development roles
·Minimum 5 years experience leading teams and overseeing deliverables
·Bachelor's degree in Computer science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent degree or relevant work experience
Skills/Knowledge
·Strong technical background in various domains and technologies
·Proven experience in leading and managing technical people
·Very good ability to organize team and workload in order to achieve objectives and targets
·Very good organizational skills - tactful, resolute and committed in providing excellent customer service
·Very good experience in the identification, assessment and management of solution and business risks/value
·Very good influencing and communication skills with stakeholders at various levels.
·Good ability to work and develop partnerships effectively with colleagues, managers, suppliers and stakeholders in a variety of situations
·Focused on continuous improvement, and able to anticipate future circumstances
·Good ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations
·Knowledge of applicable solution frameworks and tools (i.e. ITIL, PMP, etc.) is a definite asset
·Knowledge of key regulatory guidelines as a definite asset
