Position Summary
The HR Manager will operate as an advisor to all levels of leadership. They will lead and develop solutions for leadership and bring together HR team specialists (Payroll, Scheduling, HR & Labour Relations Consultants, and Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness), along with other organizational functions to provide their expertise and advice as required. They will be integral in promoting a culture that is focused on respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence toward achieving the RMH mission of delivering on the promise of a better healthcare experience.
An excellent communicator and relationship-builder, the Manager, Human Resources understands that excellence is delivered by employees who are both engaged and empowered. They will bring a broad, generalist background to the role, with experience in employee & labour relations, recruitment, onboarding and retention, scheduling, performance management and developing leaders and teams.
The HR Manager is responsible for designated programs within RMH, along with oversight for the team of HR/LR Consultants delivering service to their designated programs. Throughout the course of your duties, they will:
- Partner with operational leaders to support them in meeting their organizational goals and objectives.
- Contribute to the development of a high performing HR team while ensuring service delivery aligns with best Human Resources practice.
- Provide leadership and develop strategies toward the achievement of objectives relating to recruitment, retention, performance, and engagement.
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to the HR and Scheduling teams, and operational leaders on performance management, attendance support, workforce planning, dispute resolution, grievance management, discipline, redeployment, mediation, arbitration, and collective bargaining processes.
- Provides consultation and support to operational leaders in the practical application of employment and labour legislation (e.g., Human Rights Code, WSIB, AODA, and the ESA), policies, procedures, processes, collective agreements, and HR best practice.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to review, design, and implement policies to develop program initiatives and help support and sustain HR best practices.
- Develop, analyze data/metrics for information reporting, management decision making, and to drive improved business outcomes.
- Provide expertise related to change management including developing change management plans for various initiatives.
- Lead local collective bargaining for union group/s and participate in mediation.
- Ensure management and staff are informed of ongoing HR programs and issues.
- Lead/participate in special projects.

Essential Qualifications
- An Undergraduate Degree in Business / Human Resources or in a related discipline.
- Five (5) years progressively responsible Human Resources experience in a multi-unionized environment, inclusive of experience with grievance handling, labour relations, investigations, collective bargaining, disability case management, attendance management, with preference to working in a health care organization.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory/managerial capacity leading a HR team.
- CHRL designation with the HRPA
- You will be able to advise and communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of stakeholders including all levels of management, employees, union representatives, and other specialists within HR.
- An ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team environment and commitment to improving desired service levels.
- Able to work in a dynamic environment, under pressure with multiple priorities and with time-sensitive deadlines.
- An ability to exercise sound judgement, discretion, tact, and a high degree of confidentiality.
- Strong presentation, facilitation and negotiation, consulting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent planning, organizational and investigation skills.
- Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job, as per the current Physical Demands Analysis
