The Opportunity
TC Energy is evolving to meet the needs of our growing energy commodity generation, trading and marketing business.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to Manager, Trading Compliance based in Houston, Texas or Calgary, Alberta. This individual will report to the Manager, Market Compliance and provide specific compliance support to electricity and natural gas trading, marketing and origination activities in Canada and the US.
Primary responsibilities include implementing and executing commodity Trading Compliance controls, regulatory reporting, compliance monitoring, and oversight of front office trading and origination activities. The successful applicant will be in regular communication with various regulators, market monitors and agencies.
What you'll do
- Lead a small team of compliance professionals supporting TC Energy's energy commodity trading and marketing business
- Administer access to regulated trading exchanges like ICE, CME and Nodal
- Create, maintain and update process and procedure documentation as necessary
- Compliance monitoring and oversight of front office trading, marketing and origination activities
- Execute and/or oversee compliance training for front office staff
- Initiate, oversee and/or execute internal compliance review and investigations
- Oversee timely, accurate completion of regulatory reporting requirements in the US and Canada
- Analyze complex structured commodity transactions for compliance risks
- Provide compliance expertise, analysis and support for front-office staff on a real-time basis
- Monitor and analyze trends and changes in regulatory and compliance requirements; assess impacts of regulatory matters applicable to TC Energy's Power & Energy Solutions team
- Act as a first point of contact with regulators, market monitors, agencies and quasi-regulatory entities
- Contribute to or lead regulatory filings, including liaising with legal, risk and accounting departments
Minimum Qualifications:
- University degree in Economics, Management/Business, or other related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in energy commodities Trading Compliance, preferably in a leadership role
- Expertise in CFTC Swap and Canadian Derivatives reporting
- Strong understanding of physical and financial electricity and natural gas trading principles
- Proven ability to work directly with trading and marketing staff to administer the compliance program
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience in physical or financial energy commodity trading, with a preference for electricity or natural gas
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
- Working knowledge of applications such as Power BI and Excel
- Advanced analytical ability to gather and evaluate complex information obtained from a variety of sources
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve complex and ambiguous issues
