We’re hiring a Materials Engineer in Fort McMurray to support different Production Units in Upgrader, Utilities and/or Extraction / Tailings. If you are ready to learn and be challenged and possess strong team player and relationship building skills apply today!
Minimum Requirements:
  • Five years of Materials Engineering experience
  • A Bachelor of Materials Engineering / Bachelor of Science - Materials Engineering / or equivalent qualification
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA) as a Professional Engineer
  • A strong proficiency in Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
  • Thorough understanding of API-571, API-580, API-581, NACE-MR0103, NACE-MR0175, and other relevant API/AMPP-NACE RPs/Standards
Responsibilities:
  • Provides engineering support materials selection/substitution, corrosion / damage mechanisms, corrosion control, remaining life assessment, and repair recommendations.
  • Integrity Operating Windows – recommend mechanical integrity / corrosion related IOWs and assess the impact of excursions on our assets.
  • Support cost justification / life cycle cost analysis for material upgrades
  • Thorough understanding of ASME Sec IX to create / review weld procedures for maintenance/fabrication/turnaround work
  • Carry out Failure analysis for material failures/ complete root cause analysis
  • Identify damage mechanisms applicable for equipment / piping in Upgrading / Utilities / Extraction / Tailings plants in Oil/Gas/Petrochemical industry
  • Review inspection data and determine appropriate corrosion rates and failure probabilities
  • Work with Production, Maintenance and Reliability to determine risk and appropriate repairs
  • Provides Materials Engineering support to QA/QC Inspectors, Engineers, and Operators.
Location and other Key Details:
  • You will work out of Syncrude Mildred Lake location in Fort McMurray and may need to visit Aurora location in Fort McMurray
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours during Turnarounds / Outages / Break ins
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
