The Opportunity
Our South Bow Pipe Integrity team is growing to meet our business needs to function as an independent operator and we are looking to add a new team member in Calgary, AB (or Houston, TX) to provide engineering support in the areas of Welding and Materials.
We are seeking a diversified Welding Engineer who has knowledge and experience in welding and Materials Engineering for integrity, in-service welding, maintenance and new construction activities for pipeline systems and facilities in Canada and the U.S. This individual will have proven skills, competencies and capacity to work collaboratively with field specialists, project execution teams, contractors and integrity engineers to ensure safe operations of the pipeline system and compliance with regulations.
What you’ll do
  • Support development of the welding and joining program for liquids pipeline assets
  • Own, maintain and implement the welding and materials specifications and standards for the business
  • Review and approve weld procedures and welding scopes for in-service, fabrication and maintenance activities
  • Develop and qualify new weld procedures as needed
  • Build and implement in-service welding and contractor oversight program
  • Review project procurement documents, drawings and/or MTRs to ensure material components meet design and specification requirements
  • Prepare welding memos and provide technical guidance and practical solutions to welding and materials related scopes for pipe integrity in ditch assessments and weld quality concerns
  • Support regulatory engagement and reporting activities for Canadian and US regulators
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical/Materials or Mechanical Engineering
  • 2 - 6 Years’ experience in welding and/or Materials Engineering
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good-standing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Canadian and/or U.S. pipeline and facility design, construction, operations, and/or integrity
  • A strong understanding of material properties and fracture mechanics
  • Experience with design, material and welding standards such as ASME B31.3, ASME IX, API 1104, CSA Z662, MSS SP 75 and CSA Z245 series
  • Knowledge in the various manufacturing processes related to pipe and pipeline components
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to analyze and interpret data, and convey information to a variety of stakeholders
  • Licensed P.E. under the Texas Engineering Practice Act for US candidat
This position requires candidates to:
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
  • Occasionally be available for extended work hours outside of standard business hours, and call-outs as needed
  • Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, US and Mexico)
  • Travel across North America to other company or supplier locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated up 10% of work schedule)
