As the Operations Engineer, you will be directly involved with the on-going efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure operation in Stormwater Collection. You will be responsible for providing direct design, operational and construction methodology support as well as evaluating, developing and implementing a wide range of technical process initiatives and improvements for the section. Primary duties include:
- Research, analyze and evaluate new methods, processes and technologies related to utility design, construction, operation and maintenance practices.
- Provide project management and engineering support on day-to-day operations, small projects, pilot studies and other miscellaneous projects managed through the repair and maintenance of the stormwater network.
- Provide procurement support by issuing and managing contracts for the operation.
- Indirect supervision of personal completing, estimating, and planning of construction projects.
- A degree in Engineering, preferably in Civil Engineering.
- You must have at least 3 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P.Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, with no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Previous experience in municipal engineering such as planning, design, operations and maintenance, construction, and/or project management of water and/or wastewater (storm and sanitary) infrastructure would be considered an advantage.
- Success in this position requires exceptional communication and problem solving skills, strong political awareness, and the ability to lead and implement new approaches and practices, with close attention to change management.
Working conditions: Working outside in various locations and conditions throughout the city requiring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Regular exposure to odours, traffic, and various weather conditions.
