We are currently recruiting for an Operations Supervisor/Team Leader to develop a team and oversee the summer and winter maintenance of our commercial and residential properties. This will be a hands-on supervisory role, and would be a good fit for a current owner/operator of a landscape business looking to do the same thing but without the financial burdens or dealing with customers.
Responsibilities:
- Above all else ensuring safe work practices and following all safety guidelines
- Cutting and trimming of lawn/turf areas on a weekly basis during growing season, clear cuttings, and other debris, as required
- Pruning of shrubs and trees, as required to ensure safety and aesthetic appearance
- Planting and maintenance of garden areas throughout the growing season, including planting annuals, maintaining perennials, weeding/cultivating, fertilizing, watering, and mulching, to ensure optimal selection and appearance of plantings
- Ensure all roadways and walkways are cleared of ice and snow throughout the winter
- Sport field maintenance – fertilizing, aerating, topdressing, weed control
- Perform/assist in lawn, garden and snow removal equipment maintenance and repair
- Maintain or repair tools, equipment, buildings or fences
- Collect garbage on an as-needed basis
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provide frontline leadership, supervision and coordination to your team
- Provide motivation, coaching and guidance to subordinates
- Provide regular updates to the leadership team
- Prepare and execute scheduled work as required
- Demonstrate a safety-first attitude
- Appraise performance and when required conduct disciplinary action
In order to be successful in this role, you will require the following:
- Full G licence
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in the landscape maintenance sector
- 5+ years of experience in commercial lawn/garden, Property Maintenance, including the operation of lawn/turf, garden, small engines and snow removal equipment
- Ability to complete tasks with little to no supervision
- Mechanical aptitude
- This is a physically demanding job, so you must have the ability to lift a minimum of 30kgs
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders
- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Be a self-starter, responsible, well organized, and detail oriented
- Comfortable driving and working outdoors in all four seasons
- Formal horticultural training would be an asset
