We are actively growing, both through the development of our current asset base and through the potential acquisition of additional properties in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Hawthorne Energy LLC operates in Canada through our wholly-owned subsidiary HWN Energy, Ltd.

HWN Energy, Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:

Job Title: Pipeline Integrity and Construction Engineer (Permanent)

Location: Calgary

Reports to: Manager – Manager Production and Operations

The Pipeline Engineer will assist with project functions and will lead technical aspects of Pipeline Integrity and Construction projects while ensuring code and regulatory compliance. The Pipeline Engineer must be motivated, committed, and able to work in a fast-paced environment within a high-performance team. Multitasking and priority setting skills will be necessary to manage the schedule driven workload.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Execute engineering assessments to support pipeline status changes including but not limited to reactivations, flow reversals and pressure changes.
  • Ensure all changes are properly managed through company’s MOC processes and interface with all stakeholders including regulatory bodies;
  • Develop both annual integrity budgets and 10 year long range plans for Pipeline Integrity related programs, in conjunction with pipeline assessment team;
  • Conduct various integrity review meetings with Management and Operations including, internal/external corrosion reviews, risk assessment reviews, program reviews and annual budget reviews;
  • Prepare and deliver Pipeline Integrity presentations and document summaries to business units and external customers on an as needed basis;
  • As part of fitness for service assessments, review ILI data analysis, technology selection, past digs performed, cathodic protection programs and internal corrosion programs to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Manage and review third party crossing requests to determine impact of Pipeline Integrity and provide guidance;
  • Maintain continuous, up-to-date program and activity records and metrics;
  • Work closely with Production, Engineering and Operations staff, and various integrity vendors and consultants;
  • Own, maintain and keep current the Pipeline Operations Manual
  • Maintain the company’s pipeline database including risk assessments and pigging and cathodic protection activities
  • Responsible for scoping, estimating, budgeting and constructing pipeline projects
  • Work with Development, Production and Operations to prioritize pipeline and tie-in projects to ensure alignment with regulatory, safety and company guidelines are being met
  • Develop scope of work documents, review deliverables and manage performance
  • Support supply chain processes with vendors that provide Integrity and Construction services

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Professional engineering degree or relevant technologist certification
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience involving Pipeline Integrity
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience involving pipeline construction and design of buried and above-ground oil, gas and water pipelines
  • Experience working with engineering and Construction contractors
  • Experience with Pipeline Maintenance Integrity practices and principals and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-focused skills with the ability to demand results
  • Must be willing and able to travel and work in the field as required
  • Familiarity with CSA Z662 and ASME B31.3 pipeline standards
  • Experience in pipeline material selection and pipeline design
  • Highly competent with Pipeline Integrity threat assessment, risk assessment and risk management through various mitigation and monitoring strategies
  • Strong working knowledge of in-line inspection technologies and analysis using MFL, Geometry, IMU, and ultrasonic technologies
  • Demonstrated competence in pipeline assessment, evaluation and repair of pipeline corrosion, cracking, and deformation
  • Familiarity with pipeline lifecycle from design, operations, maintenance and abandonment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to critical think to solve complex multi-faceted problems considering both the business and engineering requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with various stakeholders
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently given appropriate guidance, and able to prioritize multiple tasks on tight deadlines
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
