Job description

Policy Analyst – Data Driven Decision Making in a First Nations Context

Summer 2024, Nipissing First Nation

Before you read this ad - learn more aboutExperience North at www.northernpolicy.ca.

Please note - If you are not eligible for Canada Summer Jobs funding, you are not eligible for this position (see below).

Northern Policy Institute is seeking two full-time Policy Analysts– Data Driven Decision Making in a First Nations Context for 16-week positions in Nipissing First Nation (near North Bay, Ontario). This position is ideal for those seeking to build firsthand experience about real world policy research. How it is done, how it is crafted, and to whom and how it is communicated.

First Nations now routinely find themselves in possession of large amounts of data. They also, however, often lack the means to put the information to effective use to inform decision making or to assess program impacts.

This is not a new problem, or one unique to First Nations. But solutions exist. This project will seek out those options and consider how they might be used in a First Nations context. Economics, statistics, public administration, political science, or business students may find this position especially rewarding. But anyone interested in exploring using data to inform decision making, particularly in a First Nations context, should apply.

Candidates are asked to provide a one-paragraph statement as to why they have applied for the position in this specific community. Applications that do not include this information may not be considered.

Northern Policy Institute appreciates all expressions of interest; only candidates who are to be interviewed will be contacted. The salary range for this position is $20-$23 per hour for Bachelor or College level candidates and $24-$25 per hour for Master level candidates. Placements will begin 13 May 2024 and end 30 August 2024.

An increment of $500 over and above the base salary is available for those who can fluently speak Anishinabemowin, Oji-Cree, Cree, Michif or French as well as English in a professional setting.

Deadline for applications is midnight eastern time 21 April 2024.

Please forward a cover letter, resume and references to hr@northernpolicy.ca with Summer 2024 Nipissing First Nation, Policy Analyst – Data Driven Decisions for First Nations in the subject line.
