As a Preventative Maintenance Person - Light Rail Vehicle (LRV), you will be responsible for submitting train dispatch sequences to the Dispatcher, providing support and assistance to electro mechanics, providing service checks and maintenance and support to the fleet vehicles, noting mechanical and body requirements and repairs, shuttling and moving vehicles as required. You will operate equipment, tools and ensure inventory of tools to adequately perform the work required. Primary duties include:
- Relocate vehicles as required by providing dispatch sequence to the Dispatcher, throw yard switches, shuffling cars around the yard as necessary, mainline vehicle change-offs, cart drop-off and add-ons for peak and off periods.
- Provide support and assistance to electro mechanics as necessary.
- Perform maintenance on vehicles such as: oil changes, grease jobs, changing or fixing lights, wiper arms, and blades, changing air filters, batteries, cleaning coupler heads, removal of cart panels, monitor and track mechanical and body repairs and requirements.
- Operate various vehicles and equipment such as: forklifts, cranes, hi-rail equipment, Klein shuttle, track sweeper, and re-railing equipment.
- Maintain hand tools required to perform assigned work.
- Maintain order, cleanliness, work output and safe working conditions in the work area.
- Assist unit foreman with checking incoming vehicles and equipment.
- Participate in health and safety meetings and ensure that defective equipment is reported promptly.
- Ensure that equipment and supplies meet standards and are used as directed.
Qualifications
- Completed High School courses in Math and English with at least 6 months of experience servicing and operating LRV equipment, including mainline.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Ability to obtain the necessary certification to operate all equipment required for this position.
- Experience performing routine maintenance on Transport vehicles or heavy equipment is a strong asset.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for an extended period of time.
Working Conditions: This position works in a shop environment, which can include exposure to: vehicle fumes, heavy equipment, noise and dust.
