Production Assistant (Term - Summer Student Employment)

Advocate Printing & Publishing is currently looking for enthusiastic and motivated students to join us as Production Assistants at our print production facility located at 181 Brown’s Point Road, Pictou, Nova Scotia. This term position will assist Production Operators on various machines and equipment to perform the tasks involved in completing print production per work order specifications.

Reporting to the Production Manager, this position communicates with team leads, operators, co-workers, and the Production Supervisor. This is a position in a fast-paced environment with opportunities for future employment. Duties will include all areas of production or warehouse as required.

The ideal candidates must be able to follow precise procedures, possess excellent hand and eye coordination, and effectively communicate and work well with others. Previous experience in a production environment will be considered an asset.

What you will do:

• Perform work in coordination with machine operators and team members.
• Clean and maintain work areas to ensure a clean and safe work area.
• Check printed products for obvious quality problems such as fold, bind, count, or anything else that would detract from product quality. Notify operators of any quality defects.
• Ensure adequate supplies are available in the immediate work area to perform the required duties, such as pallets, banding/strapping materials, boxes, labels, etc.
• Work effectively in a team-oriented environment to ensure and maintain quality, accuracy, and productivity throughout the production shift.
• Support and contribute to a healthy and safe work environment by following all workplace regulations, policies, and initiatives, including reporting all first-aid injuries, accidents, and workplace hazards.
• This position involves work in a production environment and requires various PPE such as safety shoes and hearing protection.
