The job of a pork production technician is to assist with all aspects of pig production in a swine operation, ensuring the health and well-being of the animals and the efficiency of the operation. As a pork production technician, you would be responsible for various tasks related to the care and management of pigs, including feeding, breeding, health monitoring, and vaccinating nursery pigs.
Key responsibilities of a pork production technician may include:
· Aid in the oversight and implementation of producer services such as vaccination, labour relief
· barn checks, EFS support, and troubleshooting issues on farm etc.
Additionally;
- Follow-up and maintain relationships with Ontario customers of DVS in a timely manner
- Make the necessary follow-ups and reports with current producers
- Maintain accurate and up to date customer files
- Work in the spirit of partnership with DVS team to provide timely recommendations to short- and long-term health and production strategies of customer farms
- Schedule: 8am to 4pm weekdays. Schedule is very flexible and may be altered if requested and handled on a case-by-case basis depending on tasks or visits to complete in a day. Occasional weekend requests may be made, but may come up and handled on a case-by-case basis
Qualifications and Skills:- Experience in swine production or a related field is often preferred, but for the ideal candidate, we would provide on-the-job training for motivated individuals who are passionate about working with animals.- Knowledge of pig behavior and health is essential, as well as a basic understanding of swine reproduction and husbandry- The ability to lift and carry heavy objects and work with animals in sometimes challenging environments.- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills, as well as the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.-
Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team, as well as the willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a dynamic agricultural setting.
