Schoolhouse Playcare Centres of Durham is a non-profit charitable organization serving children from 0 – 12 years of age across Durham Region. We offer full-day licensed childcare, licensed before and after-school programs, licensed home childcare and recreational summer camp programs. The Position

Reporting to the summer camp director, you will plan and coach a variety of sport experiences that promote teamwork and skill development. The Multi-Sport program is focused on introducing younger children to a variety of sports, while the Sport Development program is focused on promoting skill development for older children in the areas of basketball, soccer, and baseball. You will provide camp counsellors with the tools, resources, and support to deliver a high-quality sport-based experience and will assist them to create an environment of camaraderie and respect among campers.

Responsibilities:

▪ Plan, prepare and coach a variety of sports that promote teamwork and skill development

▪ Submit weekly program plans and schedules to camp director

▪ Plan, coordinate and execute camp wide theme days and special events

▪ Ensure all program schedules and activities (including theme days and special events) are communicated to the summer camp team on a regular basis

▪ Adhere to the program structure and guidelines as outlined, and accesses program resources and support from the camp director

▪ Fully and enthusiastically participate in all camp activities, while being a positive role model and reflecting the values of the organization

▪ Communicate professionally with colleagues, families, partners, and other SPC employees

▪ Ensure family inquiries and concerns are shared with the camp director to ensure prompt, professional follow up

▪ Attend and fully participate in all employee orientation, training and meetings as outlined

The Ideal Candidate – Qualifications, Education and Experience

▪ Minimum of 18 years old

▪ Post-Secondary enrolment in a relevant field is an asset (i.e. CYW, OCT, Recreation and Leisure, Recreation Leadership)

▪ 3 years experience playing on a competitive sport team

▪ Experience planning and coaching sport programs for children 6 – 12 years

▪ Valid up to date Standard First Aid with CPR C (prior to the start of contract)

▪ Must be able to work the entirety of the summer
