The Corporation of the County of Huron's Social and Property Services Department is Seeking a Program Staff - Children’s Services to Join The Team!
Position Summary:
Program Staff are responsible for creating warm, welcoming, inclusive and accessible early learning environments with programming designed to promote a child’s optimal development and readiness to learn. Additionally, staff provide guidance to parents and caregivers by providing information, resources and support they need to ensure that all children have the best possible start in life.
Note: Staff provide this programming in a variety of locations including church basements, arenas, parks, schools, and County buildings. Equipment and program supplies are transported as storage is normally not available.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for designing children’s programming based on individual community needs as identified through research data, surveys, community partners, families and prior best practices
- Formulate a creative plan that is inclusive of play based learning and child development while providing parents and caregivers with information and resources designed to support positive parenting
- Facilitate program in the community, being sensitive to the families and children’s unique needs and adjusting the programming accordingly
- Awareness of community programs and services necessary to engage and educate families and caregivers on healthy child development
- Responsible for overall health and well-being of the program group (ie fire plan, food allergies, etc.)
- Provide informal service coordination for parents by offering information and referral to community based children’s services organizations and agencies (ie. if staff identified that child’s speech is not at the age appropriate level, gently probe parents to determine concerns and provide information for referral to community agency)
- Design and facilitate interactive parenting workshops based on evidence research to support informed parental choice
- Collect and compile statistical data in order to evaluate programming
- Design marketing and promotional flyers and posters to promote participation in the programming as well as community awareness
- Advocate, foster, develop and maintain partnerships in the community
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- 2 year Early Childhood Education diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years related experience in an early year setting
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
- Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators is an asset
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated strong communication skills both oral and written
- Ability to interpret and apply all related legislation and policy
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Strong mentoring/interpersonal/leadership skills to build and maintain positive relationships with families and the Children Services community
- Strong research, presentation and facilitation skills
- Knowledge of effective early years’ literacy strategies
- Working knowledge of computer software
- Ability to work independently and as a team member

Wage:
- $28.98 - $33.91; as per 2023 non-union pay grid
