Job Description

 

  • Provides analytical and project management support for various programs, studies and projects of significant strategic importance to the company to ensure that these initiatives are delivered safely, on-time, and on-budget.
  • Contributes to the success of each initiative by combining superior business judgment, financial analysis and technical understanding.
  • Develops a variety of work aids and tools including communications materials, financial models, and trade-off studies.
  • Identifies potential opportunities to maintain and improve project economics through cost reduction, engineering, operations improvement, and strategic initiatives through the entire project value chain.  
     

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Assist project directors, project and operations team members, and business partners in managing all aspects of programs, studies and projects.
  • Manages the flow of information between all stakeholders and facilitates interdisciplinary communications to avoid the development of information silos.
  • With minimal instruction and guidance, performs error-free and insightful analysis that supports decision making, project management, budgeting and cost management.
  • Applies understanding of key business drivers to build and maintain complex financial models.
  • Explains and presents complex information in a straightforward way, by developing and delivering communications materials for sites and senior executives.
  • Makes decisions within procedures and guidelines in standard situations.
  • Escalates problems of high complexity or risk in a timely fashion.
  • Actively seeks mentorship and learning to further develop knowledge and skills.

 

Education and Experience

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Additional specialized education, including masters level degree (specifically an MBA) or equivalent, would be beneficial, but not required.


Experience

  • Four or more years of experience in the mining, construction or heavy industry, preferably with progressive experience in a project or operations environment.
  • Experience with financial modeling in an asset-intensive industry.
  • Previous experience in the mining industry or major consultancy is strongly preferred.
     

Skills

 

  • Highly collaborative work style, ability to work with project, technical and financial leaders.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work well in a highly unstructured environment; comfortable with uncertainty.
  • Flexibility in a fast-paced environment; ability to handle significant variation in workload.
  • Good time-management skills and is able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Expert in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of standard industry approaches with respect to project management and delivery.
  • Desire to work in an international business context including the ability to work effectively with teams incorporating varied different business cultures.
  • Language skills in French, Arabic, or Spanish are assets, but not mandatory.  
     

Other

 

  • Must be open to travel, as this role will periodically require time at site (must be able to enter USA, Brazil, Chile, Mauritania).  Travel can range from short, and potentially frequent, business trips to occasional travel to site for longer periods of time.
