POSITION: PROJECT MANAGER

HOURS: 35 HRS PER WEEK

TERM: TERM POSITION – ENDS MARCH 31, 2024, WITH OPPORTUNITY FOR EXTENSION TO 2025

REPORTS TO: SUMAS FIRST NATION GENERAL MANAGER

PURPOSE & SUMMARY

Sumas First Nation is seeking a qualified individual to take on the role of Project Manager until March 31st, 2024 with the possibility for term extension into the rest of 2024 and 2025 depending on project funding availability. The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating people and processes to ensure that designated Sumas First Nation projects are delivered on time and produce the desired results. This role will be the go-to person for everything involving a project’s organization and timeline. This role is also responsible for reporting on project milestones to all relevant stakeholders in a timely manner as well as participate in all dealings required by the Sumas First Nation Management team.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, prioritizes, coordinates, directs and evaluates projects as directed;
  • Review and evaluate requests for proposal, bid documents and assessment criteria for major projects;
  • Work in collaboration with the Sumas First Nation Public Works, Governance and Natural Resources, Lands, Emergency Preparedness & Response, as well as the Health Departments on projects requiring inter-departmental consultation;
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget;
  • Work with the Sumas First Nation Management team to develop project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility and including the use of detailed spreadsheets, diagrams, Gantt charts and process maps;
  • Ensure internal and external resource availability and allocation and actively track resource usage;
  • Develop a detailed project plan to track progress and report project milestones to stakeholders as required;
  • Act as the delegated SFN representative to other departments and external agencies as required and may participate in a variety of boards, committees and internal working groups;
  • Liaison with various agencies, contractors, engineers, contractors and other professional services;
  • Attend relevant meetings with external and internal stakeholders as required;
  • Use funds to develop comprehensive project budgets and work with Sumas First Nation management to ensure budget feasibility;
  • Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs;
  • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques;
  • Track and resolve any ongoing project issues and report and escalate to management as needed;
  • Support future project planning in relation to Sumas First Nation’s strategic plan;
  • Manage the relationship with external third parties, vendors and all stakeholders;
  • Perform risk management assessments to minimize and manage project risks;
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation;
  • Other project related tasks as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience or a related postgraduate degree;
  • 2 years’ project management/coordination experience;
  • Experience preparing, following and reporting on budgets;
  • Formal negotiation and advocacy skills;
  • Experience in working with First Nations communities and/or organizations an asset;
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Working knowledge of office procedures, records management, and document processing;
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, direct reports, community members, contractors, field staff and suppliers;
  • First Nations heritage is considered an asset;
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word, Zoom and project management related technology;
  • Appreciation of First Nations culture, traditions, procedures, and protocols.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 4 months

Salary: $50,000.00-$68,000.00 per year
