Job description

OVERVIEW:

Atlantic Packaging Products is seeking an internal / external auditor to join our team and assist with our various certification programs and help facilitate our strategic improvements to become a world class supplier.

In this role you will play a critical role in assuring commitment to several programs including quality, food safety, health & safety, environmental, ethical, etc. In addition, you will be tasked with our audit team to assist internal partners in an informational capacity so they can develop and implement strategies to meet requirements or improve.

Reports to: Quality Systems & Compliance Manager


What you will be doing:

  • Become familiar with certification standards, regulations, and typical customer requirements as they pertain to paper and paper packaging over multiple industries.
  • Work with team to develop internal audit scope and plans related to quality, food safety, environmental, Health & Safety, ethics and associated ESG programs.
  • Control, perform, report, and follow up on internal audits related to our manufacturing and warehousing facilities.
  • Act as an objective source of independent advice to ensure validity, legality, and goal achievement.
  • Identify problems and recommend risk aversion measures for effective operation and cost savings.
  • Maintain open communication with management, facilities, and larger audit team regarding status, risks, and improvements.
  • Engage in ongoing knowledge development regarding sector’s rules, regulations, best practices, tools, techniques, and performance standards.
  • Work with customer and certification auditors to ensure appropriate responses to questions and as necessary facilitate on-site audits / tours to satisfy requirement verification.
  • Support corporate and facility managers with technical assistance regarding certification / customer requirements to help them develop appropriate systems and documentation.
  • Provide requirement guidance to internal team members when working on common projects.
  • Work with audit team to maintain required information sources such as third-party sites, customer requests, etc.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations and effectiveness to meet requirements or expectations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to promote ethical practices and meeting of established requirements throughout the organization.

What you will bring to the table:

  • Preference given to education or experience in food or food packaging industry.
  • Preference given for lead or internal auditor certification in quality or food safety.
  • Preference given applicants with relevant ASQ certifications.
  • Preference given to a minimum of 3 years work experience with GMP general food safety practices, HACCP planning, GFSI standards, ISO9001 standards, Environmental controls, packaging regulations, warehouse operations, etc.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Intermediate computer skills on software such as MS Office.
  • Related working experience as Internal or External auditor.
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of information and compile into manageable reports.
  • High attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and ability to manage the follow up of multiple audit related activities.
  • Ability to make sound independent judgements related to audit issues that are based on perceived risks, cost, and value-added benefits.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A willingness to day travel (typically in greater Toronto area) frequently & conduct audits.
