A Support Worker is someone who looks after the well-being of people in their daily lives with different physical disabilities and mental health needs within group home, day program, and respite settings. Day to day responsibilities include:
- Working well and developing effective relationships.
- Dealing with a wide range of people with flexibility and open-mindedness.
- Showing interest in others and their concerns; listening to and considering the viewpoint of others.
- Encouraging, teaching, and assisting individuals to live more independently in our community within employment/volunteer, recreational activities, home environment and other social settings.
- Monitoring and reporting on the general health and wellness of those individuals under their care and be responsible for the prescribed procedures set by a health care professional.
- Following outlined individual service plans related to life skill development, every day routines in home and community, and behavior support.
- Leading, influencing, motivating, and persuading others to achieve goals and looking for ways to help others and provide assistance.
- Participating in the completion of documentation and required reports.
- Transporting individuals as required.
- Assist, support and encourage clients to be self-advocates.
- Monitoring and support with budgets and completing financial ledgers.
- Maintaining open lines of communication with others, observing and coaching other employees; assisting with training.
- Executing all tasks assigned by the Team Leader or Manager diligently, on schedule.
- Participating in meetings and training, voicing concerns as well as suggestions for improvement.
Qualification and skills:
- An interest in helping people, regardless of condition
- Available for STAT holidays and at minimum 3 shifts a month
- Familiar with the use of Microsoft Outlook, Teams, ADP, and MakeShift scheduling considered an asset
- Criminal Record Check; including Vulnerable Sector (within the last 3 months)
- Good computer skills
- Minimum 1 year driving experience with a Class 5 license, copy of driver's abstract, and proof of insurance for 2 million liability also required.
