We have an exciting hospitality opportunity at The Stirling Dining Room and Lounge, located within The Malcolm Hotel, for a Restaurant Manager!
We are looking for a seasoned F&B professional, minimum 3 years experience as Restaurant Manager, or a diploma or degree from an accredited post secondary institution in Food Service Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, or a related field, and 3 years’ experience in the food and beverage, culinary, or related professional area.
The Restaurant Manager will be responsible for all aspects of front-of-house food and beverage in The Stirling Dining Room and Lounge including staff training and supervision, scheduling, meeting service standards, staff motivation and retention, and health and safety. This person will be responsible for monitoring product quality and guest satisfaction in the Stirling Dining Room and Lounge.
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise the Assistant Manager and the front-of-house Stirling Dining Room and Lounge team
- Ensure profit margins are maintained and that agreed costs are not exceeded through effective inventory control systems and sales analysis
- Ensure all beverage menu items are costed to agreed upon targets
- Document and forecast inventory and monitor supply to ensure the restaurant is correctly stocked
- Ensure the restaurant complies with sanitation and safety standards for guests and team members including ensuring that all equipment is in working order
- Ensure the restaurant is clean, well maintained, and visually appealing to guests
- Develop and implement a formal training program for the restaurant
- Supervise staff to ensure they are dressed according to established standards and that they offer professional and courteous service to all customers
- Act as Banquet Manager when required
- Ensure staffing levels are correct and to agreed upon standards
- Ensure hygiene standards are maintained in all areas
- Respond to customer complaints in a timely manner
- Ensure reports and administration requirements are submitted
- Hold yearly performance appraisals with all front-of-house restaurant staff
- Investigate staff grievances and take appropriate action
- Identify areas for development and provide training as required
- Be familiar with all statutory requirements regarding food and beverage operations including, but not limited to, permits, licences, and health and safety regulations
- Ensure all inventories are counted and entered on time
- Ensure an effective table reservation system is in operation
- Circulate throughout the restaurant and maintain a high profile with customers and staff
- Be fully aware of trends in the industry and make suggestions for food and beverage operation improvement
- Attend meetings as required
- Work closely with all other department heads to ensure the best guest experience
- Create, promote, and execute numerous events and functions to drive revenue during non-peak times
- Follow up on work orders to ensure repairs and maintenance are completed on a timely basis
- Participate in restaurant marketing efforts, create menu ideas, survey competition and food trends, and assist in preparations of specials
- Interact with customers to determine needs, satisfaction, and resolve conflicts
- Prepare accurate forecasts
- Create and implement company policies
- Understand the government regulations covering business operations
- Make sound business decisions based on proper forecasting
- Engage with members of the community, customers, associates, vendors, and co-workers with tact and courtesy
- Accept full responsibility for managing activities and events at The Stirling Grill & Lounge
The successful candidate must be able to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
