Abe's Door Service Ltd. has provided residential, commercial and industrial overhead door service and installation for over 44 years in the Edmonton area.

Job Profile

Our Safety and Equipment Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the company's safety program including establishing policies and practices, maintaining safety documentation, supporting regular internal safety meetings and assisting the company with maintaining the company's Health and Safety program to COR certification standards. This position is also responsible for the administration of the company's equipment preventative maintenance program including scheduling/performing equipment preventative maintenance, assisting in the procurement of new equipment, and maintaining tool/equipment records.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify and assist in establishing goals for the safety program and keep an accurate, up-to-date health and safety manual and other related documentation in support of the program.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial laws regarding occupational health and safety as well as workers compensation.
  • Schedule internal safety meetings and support regular site inspections to ensure safety policies and procedures are being properly implemented and upheld.
  • Monitor company practices and promote compliance to company policies, procedures, legislation and/or client requirements; remain current on Health and Safety legislation.
  • Work directly with management to ensure Health and Safety non-compliance is addressed and effectively corrected in a manner that guarantees due diligence is maintained.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements; that inspection schedules are maintained and follow up on any issues with equipment and/or personnel; ensure preventative maintenance is in place, verify safe practices are in place.
  • Provide investigative reports for any health and safety related complaint or concern, and solicit recommendations from management and employees to correct and/or improve conditions to minimize hazards.
  • Provide various other reports as needed, ensuring compliance with company policies and other relevant standards, including applicable legislation.
  • Maintain records of incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers.
  • Monitor to ensure employees have current safety related training, certifications, and/or tickets, schedule training as required, and identify any additional training that may be needed on an individual or company wide basis.
  • Coordinate/perform equipment preventative maintenance according to established schedules.
  • Assist in the procurement of new equipment and tools as required.
  • Maintain records of equipment preventative maintenance and produce statistics for managers.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Completed Diploma Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized institution is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Certified COR Auditor.
  • Knowledge of health and safety principles and practices; understanding of applicable OH&S legislation.
  • Able to identify and recognize unsafe conditions and work practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, good presentation skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to analyze data and trends.
  • Experienced in MS Office and other software; experience with SiteDocs an asset.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license.
  • Clean drivers abstract.
  • Clear criminal background check.
  • Reliable, punctual, and have consistent work attendance.
  • Able to work well independently as well as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in the construction industry an asset.
  • Safety certificates an asset but can be provided (CSTS, WHMIS, MEWP, Fall Pro, First Aid).
