We have an immediate opening for a Safety Coordinator based in Saint John, New Brunswick to work along with our operations teams on various scaled projects within New Brunswick, and other maritime provinces, as needed.
Under the direction of the Safety Manager, the Safety Coordinatorwill provide support to all operations team that is responsible for ensuring all work performed on site is of the highest quality without sacrificing safety, productivity, or schedule.
The successful candidate is a collaborative team player who understands that working with people through safety challenges is the best approach for long term success. As a natural communicator, mentor, and educator, you draw upon your knowledge of safety best practice and regional legislation to ensure the operations team is working safely at all times. You have a proven track record of being able to effectively troubleshoot, finding the solution that is most appropriate for the situation.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and conduct new employee safety orientations and arranging additional training as required.
- Participate in site specific Joint Health & Safety meetings as required.
- Assist in the development hazard assessments, fall protection plans, rescue plans, and job safety analyses.
- Participate in the design and distribution of customer-specific safety information.
- Perform field inspections and audits to identify areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions to management.
- Coach, mentor, and provide instruction / training to employees and / or supervisors as required.
- Assist with incident investigations and timely reporting of all incidents, property damage, near misses, or significant hazards.
- Participate in safety meetings with work crews as requested and promote open discussion of safety concerns and best practices.
- Compile statistical data and reports as required.
- Provide guidance and support to employees regarding the safety program, policies, rules, and applicable regional acts, regulations, and codes of practice.
- Organize emergency preparedness policy and procedure (emergency prevention, preparedness, and response)
- Assist in managing employee's return to work program on site to ensure employee recovery and return to work.
- Travel to worksites will be required for this position.
Qualifications / Professional Requirements
- Three to five (3-5) years of relevant technical safety experience in a unionized industrial environment, ideally within Construction Industry & Manufacturing is considered an asset.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills coupled with proven ability to work well in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Professional Safety designation (CSS, CSO, NCSO, CRSP) would be considered an asset.
