Location: Hybrid – remote & in-person, Toronto, Liberty Village
Position Purpose:
CookeMcDermid is one of Canada’s leading literary agencies, with offices in Liberty Village, Toronto, representing many bestselling and internationally known writers and media figures. We are looking for a curious, highly motivated, detail-oriented, and level-headed Sales & Marketing Assistant to join our vibrant team. The ideal candidate will be one who reads widely and is keenly interested in book and publishing markets and who can support the agency’s efforts in sales, marketing, and administration working internally with agents and management, and externally with clients, publishers and other industry professionals.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Marketing
- Creating content for and managing all social media accounts
- Maintaining the CMD website, with frequent updates to the clients, deals and news pages
- Creating and updating author marketing materials
- Issuing regular announcements of publishing deals and other client and company news
- Assisting with additional marketing initiatives, including attending author, agency, and publisher events (occasionally outside regular office hours)
- Handling requests for copies of books
Sales Support
- Attending and producing minutes for weekly agency updates, sales, and brainstorm meetings
- Reading author queries and submissions, and producing reader reports
- Maintaining internal tracking of titles’ key dates
- Updating and disseminating industry sales data reports and trade publications
- Inputting and updating publishing contacts in Salesforce
- Supporting the creation of sales materials and submission strategies
Agency Support
- Coordinating and scheduling internal meetings and sales trips for agents
- Planning agency events
- Reception and Office duties
Minimum Experience Required
- Minimum of one (1) year of related experience in a sales administrative role
- Experience with Salesforce considered an asset
- Experience with Squarespace considered an asset

Language(s)
- Fluency in English (verbal and written)
Working Environment
- This position is Hybrid (remote and in-person).
- Candidates should have the ability and technical capacity to work from home and be within commuting distance to Toronto offices.
- Hours of work are Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm + some evenings / weekends during peak periods (author launches, literary festivals, industry events)
