As the Senior Laboratory Technician, you will work within the Water Quality and Regulatory Assurance. You will report to Lab Instrumentation Team Lead. Primary duties include:

  • Coordinate laboratory testing requests and projects including sampling, analysis, project management, reporting and data interpretation.

  • Conduct laboratory analysis on water/wastewater quality parameters such as pH, conductivity, TS/TSS etc. and chemical substances such as nutrients, major ions and trace metals using various analytical instrument.

  • Provide technical support in the event of increases in workload or staffing shortfalls as well as method development, instrument performance troubleshooting, and process/procedure improvements.

  • Administrative support in the areas of consumables/instrument purchasing, invoicing, scheduling, laboratory maintenance, and report development.

  • Prepare and validate daily, monthly, and annual reports but not limited for wastewater and water treatment plants and stormwater management etc.


 
 
Qualifications 
  • A completed 2-year technical diploma in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field, and at least 5 years of experience in water, wastewater, or ISO-17025 accredited laboratory.

  • High level of laboratory skills and understanding of Quality Assurance/ Quality Control (QA/QC) on testing water quality using various laboratory devices and instrument such as pH/conductivity meter, and/or IC/ICP is required. 

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.

  • Experience using computer applications such as Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Content Server will be considered as asset.

  • Knowledge of water & wastewater treatment plant processes and stormwater management will be considered as asset.

  • Success in this role requires excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent team player, intermediate leadership skills and ability to take initiative.
