JOB SUMMARY: Ensures the quality of product by testing raw materials, finished product and equipment.
JOB DUTIES:
- Collect and perform microbiological, analytical and organoleptic analysis on various incoming ingredients and finished products.
- Prepare a variety of microbiological media and chemical solutions required for use in the lab.
- Follows the First Pass Quality protocol
- Collect and analyze various environmental samples taken throughout the plant.
- Analyze ingredient and finished product samples for various chemical and microbiological components.
- Assist in the proper maintenance of equipment used for this duty.
- Ensure the production of uniform quality dairy and related products from the Edmonton plant.
- Investigate customer & consumer complaints.
- Communicate results to Quality Control Manager and provides troubleshooting evaluation and assistance to Production and Maintenance.
- Initiate and enforces hold orders on finished product.
- Will be responsible for filling out work requests and following up with a supervisor for completion date.
- Will be responsible for reporting any food safety or quality incidents in a timely manner
- Ensure that all work is performed safely while following OH&S, WCB, and Company regulations and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or related subject.(Related Degree an asset)
- 2 years experience or equivalent.
- Should exhibit initiative, good judgement, diligence, and have an excellent work and attendance record.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, computer systems and programs (Word, Excel, Outlook required)
- Training in the application of microbiology to the food and dairy production and to plant sanitation an asset.
- Microbiological laboratory ability.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, strong GLP (Good Lab Practices)
- Ability to work with limited supervision with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a plant environment and ability to work shift work.
- Proficiency and dependability in current position.
- Interest in Quality Control and dairy systems
- Physical capacity to perform light to medium to lifting.
- Proven communication and inter-personal skills.
- Must accurately complete and maintain documentation as required for company and government standards and Food Safety
- Demonstrated solid Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) understanding and compliance.
- Membership in Unifor Union of Canada, Local 445 (or must join within 30 days).
HOURS OF WORK: Hours of work are subject to the vacation schedule, scheduling variables and will change due to operation needs.
