The Senior Manager of this role is a member of a world-class Advisory team for GBM&T Canada focused on the Global Capital Markets trading businesses and their related front, middle and back-office support and operational teams. Ensures business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

This role is an individual contribution position and reports to the Director, Advisory, GBM&T Compliance Canada.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Lead and drive a customer-focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge, excellent understanding of MX and IIROC trading rules, and leveraging an advanced understanding of institutional equity, fixed income and/or derivatives trading (Listed and Over-The-Counter derivatives), including hedging and other sophisticated trading strategies.
  • Participate as part of a world-class Advisory team and program that delivers consistently efficient and effective compliance support to Global Capital Markets.
  • Support the Director, Advisory and provides ongoing counsel and advice in all Canadian trading related compliance matters for Global Capital Markets.
  • Act independently, conducting research and performing analyses on regulatory or marketplace inquiries, investigations and/or examinations; including internal matters escalated to Compliance to recommend solutions and actions to take; based on exercising good judgment on moderately complex decisions falling within standard policies and to escalate matters beyond existing policies.
  • Ensure that the policies and advisory procedures for Global Capital Markets reflect, at a minimum, all Canadian legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the development and implementation of Compliance training programs for Global Capital Markets designed to meet regulatory requirements or best practices.
  • On an ongoing basis, monitor and report on the state of the GBM Canada Advisory Compliance program for Global Capital Markets through regular meetings with business, compliance and control personnel, the preparation and/or review of management information reporting and internal audit/regulatory review results.
  • Oversee, coordinate and/or assist in the preparation for reviews and information requests related to Global Capital Markets from Canadian and International regulatory bodies.
  • Assist on specific projects (e.g. special investigations, regulatory initiatives etc.).
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Motivate their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • College Diploma or University Degree
  • A minimum of seven or more years of relevant experience in a large financial institution or established securities or other financial services activity regulatory agency
  • An excellent understanding of MX and CIRO trading rules
  • Advanced understanding of institutional equity, fixed income and/or derivatives trading (Listed and Over-The-Counter derivatives), including hedging and other sophisticated trading strategies
  • General understanding of Canadian regulatory and industry trends related the skills to translate requirements into efficient and effective, policies, procedures, controls, systems and training
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking with ability to identify and articulate program improvement opportunities across GCM Canada and propose efficient, cost effective solutions whether in response to regulatory changes or identified problems
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated leadership of successful regulatory compliance and technology-based compliance projects
  • An enquiring mind, excellent judgment and detail-oriented
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Proven ability to develop and implement solutions to complex issues
  • Ability to learn and adapt to rapidly changing regulatory and business environments
  • Tactical experience within the field is considered an asset (trade desk experience, etc)

Effectively performing this role involves working with and providing guidance to the team to ensure that all tasks are being addressed.
  • You will handle sensitive and confidential information and must have a high level of integrity.
  • You are expected to act independently and arrive at conclusions or recommendations based on the exercise of good judgement on moderately complex decisions falling within standard policies and escalate matters beyond existing policies. Effectively performing this role involves consulting with the team and others as needed
  • You will interact on an ongoing basis with Executive and senior professional staff, generally on time sensitive items. The incumbent is required to respond with tact while ensuring compliance priorities and requirements are met.
  • You are expected to apply regulatory requirements and policy guidance with minimal supervision, provide advice to senior professional staff in the various business units, and identify, investigate and escalate any exception conditions to management. Functions must be performed accurately and reliably as errors or delays can have serious adverse regulatory implications.
