The Senior Manager, Application Development and Maintenance - Crew, is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance, and support of critical applications within the Crew domain at Air Canada. This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in Application Development and Maintenance, particularly in mission-critical areas such as crew mobility, crew pay, crew time, crew scheduling and other essential functions for both In-Flight Services (IFS) and Flight Ops.  

Reporting directly to the Director of Application Development and Maintenance - Crew, the Senior Manager will provide strategic oversight, manage budgets, lead a high-performing team, ensure the successful delivery of projects, drive system integration, and maintain reliable and high-performing applications to meet operational needs and business goals. 

Responsibilities:  

Application Development and Maintenance

  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and support of key applications within the Crew domain, ensuring high reliability, availability, and performance. 
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize development efforts, and align technology initiatives with operational needs. 

Strategic Oversight and Planning: 

  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for Application Development and Maintenance, aligning technology initiatives with the airline's business goals and operational requirements. 
  • Identify opportunities for application enhancements and modernization to improve efficiency and user experience. 

Budget Management: 

  • Manage the budget for Application Development and Maintenance, optimizing resource allocation and cost control while adhering to financial targets. 
  • Track and report on budget performance and provide regular updates to the Director. 

Team Building and Leadership: 

  • Recruit, build, and lead a highly skilled and motivated team of developers and support staff. 
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages professional growth and development. 

Program and Project Delivery: 

  • Ensure the successful delivery of Application Development projects and Maintenance tasks, adhering to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. 
  • Collaborate with project managers, business analysts, and stakeholders to drive project success. 

System Integration and Application Uptime: 

  • Coordinate system integration efforts to ensure seamless data flow and interoperability across applications and platforms within the Crew domain. 
  • Monitor application uptime, performance, and reliability to meet operational SLAs (Service Level Agreements) and business expectations. 

Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • Engage with senior leadership teams across various operations branches to provide status updates, align technology initiatives with business objectives, and gather feedback for continuous improvement. 

Compliance and Quality Assurance: 

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, data security standards, and best practices in Application Development and Maintenance
  • Implement quality assurance processes and conduct regular audits to maintain high-quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. 
  • Proven track record of at least 8 years in technology leadership roles, with a strong background in Application Development and Maintenance within the airline industry or a related domain. 
  • Excellent understanding of airline operations, especially in areas like Crew Mobility, Crew Pay, Crew Time, Crew Scheduling  
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, budget management, and technology roadmap development. 
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams. 
  • Experience with project management methodologies and successful delivery of Application Development projects. 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of presenting to senior leadership and gaining support for technology initiatives.
