Establish and Execute ERM operational oversight to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Group

  • Group Head Agenda - Actively plan & manage strategic agenda; stay on top of priority items and advise Risk Group Head accordingly; facilitate regular, planned interactions with Enterprise Risk Leadership (ERL), other interactions as necessary (CRO, REC, others); prepare materials

  • Priorities, Performance & Tracking - Establish OKRs, track, assess and report on progress, intervene or escalate where necessary

  • Financials & Resources - Facilitate regular review of financial performance, plan and manage resourcing needs

  • Employee Engagement - Plan & manage or enable town halls, events, Group communications, AWCC action planning

  • Compliance, Audit & Regulatory - Establish integrated Group-wide view of attestations, reviews, submissions, other requirements; explore centralization where efficient and effective to do so

  • Enterprise Risk Portfolio Management (ERPM) Programs - Support delivery of Risk-wide programs & initiatives (e.g., Building the Bench)

  • Other - Provide Group support and integration for other operational and administrative matters (e.g., NWOW)

This position is located in Toronto and offers a hybrid work arrangement with at least 2-3 days per week on-site while other days are remote.

The Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk Operationssupports theHead, Enterprise Risk (Head ER) and the Head, ERM Operations, Transformation & Change (Head OTC) in executing strategic priorities and supporting the efficient and effective operations of the Risk Group.

The role works with Head ER, Head OTC and Enterprise Risk Leadership (ERL) to establish priorities and track and manage Risk Group performance. It also plans and manages the Risk Group agenda and gathers and integrates information to promote the efficient and effective operation of the Risk Group. They work with stakeholders to interpret financial and business results, understand the operating environment & emerging trends and provide planning, support and recommendations to improve operational effectiveness and achievement of priorities.

The role supports the effective management of risk, including operational and compliance riskand management of the attestation/reporting process specific to the Risk Group. It also supports the development of effective and engaging communications for Head ER including planning and preparation for Board and Senior Committee presentations, Town Hall events and other important Employee Engagement communications and interactions.

This role offers unique access to and engagement with a broad range of strategic risk issues, unique opportunities for senior level exposure and personal learning and experience in supporting the management of an operational unit with 400+ FTE and an annual budget >$80MM.

Risk Group representation and leadership

  • Acts as a trusted advisor to Risk Group Leadership and other senior leaders for making business decisions and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Develops an expert understanding of Risk Group challenges.
  • Recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the Risk Group.
  • Recommends measures to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Influences and negotiates to achieve Risk Group objectives.
  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Fosters strong internal and external networks and works with and across multiple teams to achieve Risk Group objectives.
  • Facilitates the development of priorities, current, and planned initiatives, and support requirements related to strategic management for the Risk Group.

Risk Group Head support

  • Supports annual planning and strategy development process, working closely with Head ER, Head OTC and Group Leadership.
  • Plans and manages Head ER's strategic agenda, including monitoring and reporting progress against priorities and flagging issues and planning regular ERL team meetings.
  • Leads the execution of designated Risk Group programs; assesses and adapts as needed to ensure quality of execution.
  • Provides integration across areas of Head ER accountability for purposes of budgeting, reporting on progress against key priorities and other ad hoc matters as required.
  • Collaborates across ERPM to develop communications strategies and ensure consistency of messaging, in order to positively influence or change behaviour. Provides communications and presentation support (e.g., Town Halls, BMO Pulse, formal communications to Risk Group).

Regulatory, compliance and audit

  • Gathers and monitors the status of issues relevant to the Risk Group (regulatory, audit findings, other gaps and issues) and keeps Head ER apprised.
  • Creates and maintains annual compliance calendar which guides Head ER's regulatory compliance activities and reporting.
  • Responsible for the preparation and execution of Head ER compliance reporting including SOX, Risk Assurances to the Enterprise CRO, and other, related activities.

Financial Management and Administration

  • Coordinates financial planning and forecasting and tracks financial performance against targets, in partnership with Corporate Finance.
  • Maintains and manages hiring pipeline for Risk Group and manages hiring approval process.
  • Ensures effective control of Risk Group staffing and expenses within budget and works with Head ER and Head OTC to manage exceptions.
  • Facilitates regular financial performance check-ins with ERL and recommends remedial actions where Risk Group or Enterprise Risk teams are off track.

Special projects & ERPM-wide integration

  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to multiple, interdependent, complex problems.
  • Breaks down strategic and operational problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Supports the execution of initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partners with COO, ERPM Operations and other Risk Groups, where necessary, to address ERPM-wide operational issues and opportunities, support delivery of ERPM-wide programs and initiatives (e.g., NWOW, Building the Bench).

Qualifications:

  • Typically, 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seasoned expert with extensive knowledge of banking, risk management and/or operations.
