Purpose
Leads and oversees the execution of business strategies, plans, and initiatives in compliance with governing regulations, the AML/TF Program, and internal policies/procedures. Leads assessment and change management of strategic initiatives and employee engagement activities.
Key Accountabilities
- Leads and drives a customer-focused culture throughout their team to deepen customer relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Drives aspects of regulatory management and exam readiness, as well as issues management.
- Collaborates (and leads where appropriate) with key TM stakeholders, on audit / issue management and closure, reporting, communications & change management, process/procedure enhancements, resource planning, and special projects.
- Supports the activities and the internal processes of the senior management AML committee(s).
- Collaborates (and leads where appropriate) creation and implementation of training, including material and communication strategy.
- Contributes to communication and employee engagement strategies to reinforce 'tone at the top' creating a culture of compliance to ensure staff adheres to the bank's AML/ATF and Sanctions policies, procedures and processes, and all other Bank policies (e.g., financial, HR).
- Responsible for employee engagement materials, including Town Hall, Newsletter and Honour Roll, and is responsible for driving new engagement initiatives.
- Supports the design, assessment and change management of bank-wide initiatives.
- Supports the FIU with onboarding and offboarding, SharePoint site ownership, and meeting administration.
- Understands how the Bank's Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which teams under his or her direction pursue effective and efficient operations while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, those defined under the Enterprise-wide AML & ATF and Sanctions Handbook, Scotiabank Code of Conduct, the Anti-Corruption Policy, Scotiabank Information Security Policy and the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework.
- Defines opportunities for improvement for process, procedure and employee engagement, to foster a strong and effective, high-performing FIU.
- Builds a high-performance environment by implementing a human resource strategy that retains, develops and motivates their team fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating Scotiabank's and the Global AML/ATF Department's visions, values and Business strategy.
- Strategically anticipates and identifies the need for additional resources, leading the hiring and human resource development process, managing succession and development planning for the team and identifying and promoting high performing individuals.
Experience / Education:
- Bachelor's degree (University Degree) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in AML, Compliance, Financial Crime Risk Management, Audit, and/or Change Management capacity in a major financial institution; or equivalent in education and years of experience. In addition,
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist designation is an asset.
- Ability to build strong cross-functional business relationships.
- Ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency without compromising compliance requirements.
- Ability to deliver an effective change management and communication strategy.
- Experience with Audit and regulatory exams is an asset.
- Experience leading employee engagement and training activities is an asset.
- Advanced problem-solving skills to deal with complex issues, across functions.
- Demonstrates integrity when working with colleagues and leads others by setting example of required behaviours.
