Purpose


Contributes to the overall success of the Healthcare & Professional Banking team, Small Business in Canada by ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

The incumbent will support the execution of strategic initiatives that will contribute to the overall success of the national specialist team. They will work closely with senior management, business line leaders and a diverse set of stakeholders to be responsible for providing decisions and deliver strategic advice that solves business challenges through research, analysis, compelling strategic recommendations, diligent implementation, and execution monitoring.


Accountabilities

  • Champions a client focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

  • Support the National Director, Healthcare & Professional Banking by:

    • Supporting the development and execution of the Professional Specialist Banking strategy

    • Reviewing project proposals or plans by various Partners to determine applicability and timing

    • Providing approvals/agreement/feedback/suggestions for refinements to various partner and HCP teams to ensure projects underway achieve stated objectives

    • Providing prompt decisions at meetings represented by individuals at the Director, Vice President, and Sr. Vice President levels. The incumbent will need to make independent assessments in providing their commitment for the business line

    • Coordinating and influencing efforts with various business lines to ensure deliverables and timelines are met and align with other initiatives underway in Small Business

    • Coordinating research, analysis, review business trends and obtain competitive intelligence

    • Presenting plans to leaders of Canadian Banking at the VP and above levels

    • Developing clear, appropriate communication materials and provide support for implementation

    • Gather and monitor the competition and make recommendations on market changes (pricing, policy services) as required

    • Using analytical tools and conducting product-related analyses to produce actionable insights and communicate findings

    • Collaborate with Senior Manager to develop and optimize products, features and policies and implement product-related initiatives

  • Strategic Planning

    • Participate in integrated cross-functional teams on the strategic planning and delivery of prioritized initiatives and complex projects that will directly contribute to near and long-term business goals.

    • Support in formulating, development, and communication of strategic planning

    • Identify enablers and key issues prior to and during implementation, raise issues with key stakeholders and offer solutions.

    • Ensure strategic initiatives meet the necessary rigor, strategic alignment, and return objectives; fully reflect the costs and benefits associated with the initiative.

  • Project Execution

    • Lead, participate and contribute to the successful implementation of strategic initiatives and plans, in partnership with business lines and corporate functions.

    • Prepare project plan, ensure completion of action items, and keep key stakeholders informed of the process and progress.

    • Partner with internal and/or external vendors/contracts as required to facilitate the achievement of deliverables and overall objectives.

    • Ensure delivery of initiatives are on scope, time, and budget.

    • Responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously and resolving conflicting priorities and objectives.

  • Relationship Management

    • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) to facilitate execution and the achievement of deliverables by:

    • Building a diverse network and generating opportunities to collaborate with key stakeholders across departments and outside the Bank.

    • Acting as point of contact and as Subject Matter Expert "SME" for assigned initiatives and projects.

  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience


Education:

  • University degree in business or economics or other Business Specialty background

  • Commitment to participate in other training requirements as determined by the Bank from time to time

Skills/Work Experience:

  • 3-4-year experience in Banking Industry or similar business background is preferred

  • Strong knowledge of the Healthcare and Professional Banking industry is preferred.

  • Effective communication skills needed as presentations and updates to senior leadership will be regular requirement.

  • Strong influencing skills are needed to help motivate agreement among multi-functional teams.

  • Must set a positive example of change and encourage others to do the same.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with multi-functional teams.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential to facilitate a positive and effective team environment.

  • Good knowledge of Canadian Business Banking systems, routines, and operating procedures

  • Solid understanding of the Bank strategies and structures. To complement this, the incumbent must possess tactical planning skills and implementation/ management skills.

  • Ability to deliver in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Strong leadership and management skills are essential to work with Partners across the Bank as well as external parties.

  • Strong personal computer skills and familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet software and planning tools are necessary as the incumbent uses a PC for a variety of communication, sales management and general information activities including preparing documents, monitoring results, and responding to enquiries.

  • Working knowledge of services provided by support areas such as Shared Services, Global Risk Management, Enhanced Due Diligence Unit.
