What is the opportunity?

Digital Cheque Processing group has been evolving Agile practices and we’re looking to add an experienced Scrum Master to support one of our teams in this journey. We are technology team that is behind all software solutions to process cheques & returns of cheques from other financial institutions, indirect clearers, and corporate clients through various channels.

In the role of Scrum Master, you will be part of a high performing team collaborating with technology, operations and business partners to ensure successful delivery of project objectives. You will be responsible for managing project deliverables with internal and external stakeholders, communication and to drive agile evolvement within the team.

You will enable a team to run a medium-to-complex agile development process that seamlessly aligns with business and technical needs. Your role is key to remove any impediments that obstruct a team’s pursuit of its sprint goals and ultimately deliver a product that generates business benefits for one or several RBC lines of business.

What will you do?

  • Facilitating medium-to-high complexity Agile initiatives from initiation through release, providing oversight to ensure alignment with RBC Agile/Scrum practices, including but not limited to, project kick-off, sprint, release and deployment planning
  • Accountable alongside the scrum team for the achievement of release objectives and results that meet LOB stakeholders’ needs and expectations
  • Navigating and identifying shared IT services required by the team in the delivery of its objectives
  • Facilitate discussion leading to collective decision-making, goal setting and conflict resolution within the team
  • Remove impediments to delivery success through the proactive management of external dependencies, medium-to-high complexity team problem-solving and the development of new solutions or approaches to ongoing challenges; has the authority to execute against new approaches and escalate issues through business and/or IT channels where necessary
  • Accountable for creating and maintaining the appropriate vehicles for open communication within the scrum team (e.g. tracker boards) to create a trusting and safe team environment
  • Communicate cross functionally, ensuring transparency of progress and outcomes and facilitate status updates, product demos and retrospectives
  • Provide proactive coaching to the team and recommend continuous improvement of processes to optimize team productivity

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • Certified or pursuing certification - PMP®, CSM®
  • Knowledge of best-practice project management practices, Agile, SDLC and PMLC methodologies
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), relationship building skills
  • Creative self-starter and efficiency advocate committed to continuous improvement and an understanding of the concept ‘less is more’
  • Experience collaborating with and achieving buy-in from stakeholders across the organization
  • Growth mind-set coupled with an understanding that relationships and human interaction are key to lead the team to deliver innovative solutions and maximize their capacity.

Nice to have:

  • 1-2 years’ experience managing software development projects
  • Banking experience in particular Technology and Operations teams
