What you’ll do
We're looking for someone who can get excited about building tools to help people navigate and understand the vast news/information ecosystem we live in.
- Spearhead decision-making processes related to data storage infrastructure, ensuring optimal selection and utilization of technologies.
- Work with the dev-ops team to provision and configure new data storage infrastructure.
- Proactively recommend and execute enhancements to the current data management systems and strategies to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
- Oversee the ongoing maintenance and reliability of our data storage infrastructure, guaranteeing high performance and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to assess and define data storage and retrieval needs, shaping the system architecture accordingly.
What you need
- Proven experience with AWS infrastructure, indicating proficiency in leveraging cloud solutions for data handling and processing.
- Demonstrable expertise in relational databases, showcasing a strong foundation in database management and optimization.
- Experience working with vector data, demonstrating skill in managing and manipulating this specific data type within various applications.
- Solid background in data warehousing, particularly with handling high-volume data and ensuring efficient data retrieval processes.
- Valuable experience with Elasticsearch, including but not limited to cluster configuration, rolling index setups, and nuanced understanding of data storage tiers, will be highly regarded.
Bonus Points if You Have
- A deep curiosity and interest in the political system, and the relationship between tech and media
- Experience using any of Ground News’ products (app, website, extension, newsletters)
- Familiarity with TypeScript/Javascript, AWS Athena, and/or Terraform
