The Trade, Investment and Food Safety Division expands and diversifies Alberta’s food and bioproduct manufacturing sector in local and global markets while also providing effective food safety assurance systems.



Food & Bio-Processing Branch (FBPB) provides scientific and technical expertise, business development services and specialized facilities to support product/process development, scale up and commercialization of food and non-food products for companies serving local, national and global markets

Role Responsibilities

The Food Processing Development Centre and Agrivalue Processing Business Incubator is an operating food production facility. The facility is in place to meet processing needs of Alberta food companies.


Reporting to the Food Safety Manager, the Shipper/Receiver role is a critical one to provide efficient movement of incoming and outgoing materials for the food processing clients and stakeholders working in the facility.



Working with industry clients and in a team environment, the Shipper/Receiver will require interpersonal and effective communication skills.



The Shipper/Receiver is responsible for:

  • Conducting shipping and receiving tasks in the Food Processing Development Centre and Agrivalue Processing Business Incubator.
  • Maintaining storage of materials in coolers, freezers and dry storage areas.
  • Performing routine inventories in coolers, freezers and dry storage areas.
  • Providing support to the facility Food Safety program.
  • Providing support to the facility Occupational Health and Safety program.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) year technical diploma in a related field.
  • Relevant shipping/receiving work experience with a minimum of two (2) years warehousing and inventory related work.

Additional requirements

  • A valid forklift operator license.
  • Experience operating a forklift.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract.
  • Warehouse & Inventory Control experience.
  • Must be able to work in a food processing environment.
  • Must be detailed oriented, have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Computer skills are required.
  • Must have time management and organization skills.

Preference will be given to those with knowledge and experience in the food industry.



Equivalencies may be considered - directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Assets

  • Experience in the food processing industry will be considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System).
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.

Position Information:

  • Located in Leduc
  • Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week (full time)
  • Monday to Friday (08:15 am -16:30 pm)
      • Hours may vary at times when necessary
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract is required
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Must be flexible and able to manage changes at short notice
  • Overtime may be required
  • Overtime rate will be applicable for all overtime work
