Small Business Development Manager
$33.00/ hour - Full-Time (40 hours/ week)
Work ‘from Home’, Squamish, B.C.
Bridge Barn Consulting Inc. works primarily with First Nations communities and organizations in a variety of capacities including: health centre evaluation & planning, accreditation preparation, policy & procedure development, education & training, facilitation, coaching and special project management.
In partnership with the Managing Director, the Small Business Development Manager will play a crucial role in growing and developing the business aspects of Bridge Barn Consulting in the areas of business planning & growth, marketing & communications, business operations and service delivery team support. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled person to apply their business acumen to develop our service organization to the ‘next level’.

Job Duties
In partnership with the Managing Director, assists with the development and execution of the following deliverables.
Business Planning & Growth
- Develops, carries out and tracks progress towards achieving targets identified in business plans.
- Seeks out and pursues qualified business opportunities on behalf of Bridge Barn Consulting.
- Develops business proposals, quotes, and grant applications in collaboration with the Managing Director and the service delivery team.
- Conducts environmental scans, risk assessments and develops risk control plans together with the Managing Director and the service delivery team.
- Develops summary reports based on business activities.
- Conducts gap analysis to identify new positions to support organizational growth.
Marketing & Communications
- Develops an annual marketing and communications plan (including social media).
- Leads and carries out the marketing and communications plan (includes managing social media platforms and the website).
- Drafts marketing, communications, and social media materials, working with graphic designers and print shops (where appropriate).
- Represents Bridge Barn Consulting at business and networking events.
- Shares, promotes, and distributes information about Bridge Barn Consulting.
Business Operations
- Researches and presents infrastructure options to support efficient and effective business operations and service delivery.
- Works with the team to learn and optimize new and existing business and service delivery infrastructure to maximize efficiencies and support organizational growth.
- Explores opportunities to incorporate artificial intelligence to support business and service delivery infrastructure.
- Develops Standard Operating Procedures for business-related activities and supports the consulting team to develop Standard Operating Procedures for service delivery.
- Supports projects leads to ensure project management and change management tools are used to manage service delivery projects.
- Utilizes change management methods and approaches to support change initiatives.
- Purchases equipment, hardware, and software as approved by the Managing Director.
Team Support
- Organizes and documents team meetings.
- Follows up with team members on items generated from team meetings.
- Develops and revises job descriptions together with the Managing Director.
- Develops and manages job postings and shortlists applicants based on set criteria.
- Participates with the interview process as requested.
- Supports the orientation of new staff and ensures onboarding documentation is complete.
- Seeks out qualified contracted service providers that may be considered to provide business support.
- May support the service delivery team with revenue generating activities in areas of business expertise as appropriate (e.g., strategic planning sessions).
Other
- May be assigned special development opportunities and projects as needed.
Education, Skills & Abilities and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required or Master’s degree preferrable in business management.
- Project Management Certification.
- Change Management Certification.
Skills and Abilities:

- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive.
Experience:
- 5+ years of business growth and development experience.
- 5+ years of project management experience.
- 5+ years of change management experience.
- 5 + years developing business infrastructure to maximize operational efficiencies.
- 8 + years of total professional experience working in the Small Business industry or start-up experience.
- Experience working with First Nations and Indigenous peoples and communities.
- Experience applying continuous improvement and risk management methodologies.
- Experience with marketing, communications, and social media management.
- Experience working with Privacy & Security legislation (provincial & federal) for private business.
Other:
- Acceptable Criminal Records check (with vulnerable sector search).
- Annual influenza vaccination and COVID vaccination are a requirement and condition of employment.
Conditions of Employment
- The primary work site is ‘from home’ in Squamish.
- Occasional travel to various locations across Canada may be a requirement of this job.
- Hours of work: 9:00am – 5:00pm.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
- The job offer is subject to three (3) months of probation.
- Compensation - $33.00/ hour ($68,640/ year).
