The Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) is the primary coordinating agency for mitigating climate risks and responding to provincial-level emergencies and disasters. MCR works directly with local governments, Indigenous Nations, provincial ministries and agencies, federal departments, other jurisdictions, industry and volunteers in hazard mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
The Emergency Management Technician supports the British Columbia Emergency Management structure including planning, preparedness, response, and recovery at the regional level, as well as the integration of key regional partners and maintains critical linkages to local government, provincial and federal staff, Indigenous Nations, industry, volunteers, and the public.The position assists by maintaining the operational readiness of a PREOC, including 24/7 staff availability, and participates in Temporary Emergency Assignment Management System (TEAMS) member training and exercising.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience
- A Degree, diploma or certificate in Emergency Management, public administration, or a related discipline PLUS a minimum of two (2) years directly related work or volunteer experience*; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- *Relatedwork or volunteerexperience must include all of the following:
- Experience working as part of a team, addressing strategic initiatives, and coordinating multi-agency committees or working groups.
- Experience dealing with natural hazards, risk assessment and/or emergency response.
- Experience working with standard computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Preference may be given to candidates with any of the following:
- Experience in the development of procedures, standards, and guidelines.
- Experience working and engaging with First Nations communities and/or organizations.
- Experience in the delivery of training programs.
- Experience with financial administration.
- Experience and training with Incident Command System and/or BC Emergency Management Systems (BCEMS).
Candidates must be able and willing to:
- Travel to locations throughout the province.
- Work on-call and extended hours during emergency activations and participate in operational deployments throughout the province.

About this Position:
There are seven (7) positions available.
These positions have full time on-site requirements.
These positions can be based in any of the following Ministry of Emergency Management & Climate Readiness offices: Kamloops, Nelson, Prince George, Saanichton, or Surrey.
These are temporary opportunities until November 30, 2024. These temporary opportunities may be extended.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Kamloops, Nelson, Prince George, Saanichton, Surrey and Smithers.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
