Job Summary
Support First Nations engagement for a positive impact in natural resource operations
The Ministry of Forests aims to deliver policies and programs to provide economic, cultural, environmental, and social benefits for all British Columbians. Our work supports a sustainable economy in all parts of the province and provides a foundation for true and lasting reconciliation with Indigenous people.
The Advisor, First Nations Relations reviews proposals for the use of natural resources on Crown Land and determines the impact on First Nations identified or potential traditional use areas. The Advisor plans and leads the facilitation of the First Nations consultation process and ensures legal obligations have been met.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in natural resource management or other relevant discipline and two (2) years of recent, related natural resource experience; OR,
  • Diploma or Certificate in natural resource management or other relevant discipline and three (3) years of recent, related natural resource experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, and/or social or economic development issues.
  • Significant experience working with First Nations communities and facilitating First Nations consultations.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous (Métis, First Nations, or Inuit).

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one (1) or more of the following:
  • One (1) or more years of experience leading or supporting consultation processes and/or negotiations and/or supporting agreements with First Nations.
  • One (1) or more years of operational experience in natural resource management.
  • One (1) or more years of experience in managing multiple projects and assignments.

Proviso:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence, or equivalent.

About this Position:
One (1) permanent, full-time position is currently available.
This position can be located in Clearwater or Kamloops.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
