The Toronto Blue Jays are looking for students entering the final year of their undergraduate program who are interested in joining the Toronto Blue Jays Strategy & Analytics team. Students will have the opportunity to learn from industry-leading professionals and explore what it means to be a part of Canada’s only Major League Baseball team.
Please note that only students graduating from an undergraduate program in 2025 will be considered for this position.
ABOUT THE STRATEGY & ANALYTICS TEAM
The Strategy & Analytics team helps all areas of Toronto Blue Jays Business Operations make better decisions by working on key business initiatives, analyzing data, and sharing insights. Working cross-functionally, our team provides market, financial, and consumer analyses to deliver a strong fact base and logical framework for planning and decision-making. This role is a 4-month paid summer associate position from May to August 2024, with the potential to be extended to a full-time position upon graduation.
ABOUT THE ASSOCIATE PROGRAM
Students will join a cohort of summer associates, including participants across various departments. With a focus on developing the next generation of Blue Jays leaders, the Associate Program will give students access to cohort-specific learning, social, and mentorship opportunities, including a cross-departmental mentor within the organization who will support them throughout the program and the chance to present to the Toronto Blue Jays Leadership Team.
Over the summer, candidates will gain valuable real-world experience in the sports industry and discover what it means to be a part of the Toronto Blue Jays team here at Rogers Centre.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Throughout the summer on the Strategy & Analytics team you will have the opportunity to work on various projects, which may include the following:
- Work ing closely with stakeholders in other departments (e.g., Sales & Marketing, Fan Experience & Concessions, Partnerships) to understand their specific data needs and ensure they are equipped with the right data and analytical tools to support their operations and decision-making process
- Gathering and analyzing data to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies. Translating these complex data findings into clear, actionable insights that can be easily understood and applied by other stakeholders (e.g., analyzing survey data to understand key pain points in the gameday experience of our fans)
- Addressing key business problems by formulating and testing hypotheses, synthesizing findings, developing recommendations, and helping to translate recommendations into results (e.g., should the Blue Jays launch a new ticket product?)
- Creating Tableau dashboards to visualize data, ensuring that dashboards are easily accessible and provide end-users with the data they need in a format that is intuitive and easy to understand
- Performing complex analysis and modelling to forecast trends and anticipate customer behaviour (e.g., forecasting ticket sales, likelihood of a fan renewing/repurchasing, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in university with expected graduation in 2025
- Preferred major in computer science, engineering, math, statistics, economics, business, or another quantitative field of study
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to analyze large data sets, identify and interpret data trends, and provide actionable insights
- Exceptional critical thinker with an ability to effectively communicate complex concepts
- Advanced skills in Excel; experience with BI tools (Tableau), databases (SQL), and statistical analysis software (R, Python) an asset
- Understanding of and interest in statistics, data analytics / data science, and related areas an asset
- Team player with a willingness and curiosity to push past assigned work
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Baseball knowledge and passion for the game a plusLegally eligible to work in Canada
