The Township of Oro-Medonte is currently accepting Summer Students for the position of Seasonal Operations Labourer in the Operations & Community Services Department.
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor in either the North (Moonstone) Yard or the South (Line 7) Yard, the Seasonal Operations Labourer shall provide general labour as required. Duties shall include but not limited to grass trimming in ditches and around guard rails, traffic control and cold patching.
To apply for this position, you must be a minimum of 18 years of age, hold a valid Class “G” driver’s license, and currently enrolled as a post secondary school student, returning to school in the fall.
Successful candidates will be required to work 40 hours per week, varied shifts, from early May and continue until Labour Day.
Position Requirements include:
- Ability to deal effectively but courteously with the public, contractors, and staff within a Team Environment.
- Good communication skills and ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
- Demonstrates good judgement, makes sound decisions with a strong work ethic;
- Able to work outside in all weather conditions, be physically fit and able to perform strenuous work such as climbing, lifting and moving heavy items (up to 50 lbs), involving considerable effort, and capable of performing the work assigned in a safe manner;
- Knowledge and understanding of, and ability to apply, safety policies, standards and legislation (Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS);
- Ability and willing to working within the roadway;
- Ability to perform assignments with minimal supervision;
- Knowledge in traffic control and mechanically inclined would be considered an asset.
As a condition of employment successful applicants must be able to provide a Criminal Records & Judicial Matters - Level 2 Check and a Driver's Abstract satisfactory to the Township.
