Facilities Summer Student

Dates: June 24 - August 23, 2024

Hours of Work: 7:30 am to 3:30 pm

Hourly Wage: $17.00 /hour

We are looking for a Summer Student to support our Facilities department during July and August. This is a great opportunity for students to learn from skilled tradespeople in general preventative and regular maintenance tasks on a very old building. You will be supporting our Facilities Staff with general repairs and alterations of the interior/exterior areas of the building.  

Specific Accountabilities 

• Set up/disassemble various rooms, furniture and storage areas within offices and classrooms  
• Assist Facilities Staff Members with general day-to-day maintenance including dry walling, plastering, painting, hardwood floor sanding, sealing and refinishing  
• Deliver supplies and equipment to the appropriate departments or storage areas 
• Provide general grounds-keeping support  
• Organize garbage and recycling bins for pick-up on scheduled days  
• Other duties as required  

Skills, Experience and Attributes

• Working knowledge of basic tools, equipment and safety practices  
• Painting experience  
• Ability to push, lift and carry up to 30 pounds  
• Knowledge of proper lifting procedures  
• Ability to work from an 8 foot ladder  
• Effective team-player with the ability to work independently  
• Strong interpersonal skills  

Hours of Work:

• 7:30 am to 3:30 pm Safety Boots: Required (Green Patch)
