HMC is a settlement agency that helps newcomers settle and integrate into a community that is welcoming and inclusive. Three Summer Counsellors are required to support our newcomer youth in-person and online sessions. This will be an excellent opportunity for students as during their employment they will be involved in planning and facilitating the program and activities that will help support language acquisition for newcomer youth as well as introduce the arts, recreation, and leadership and volunteer opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In person/Online Summer Co-Facilitator
o Can effectively facilitate independently or co-facilitate youth sessions.
o Can develop/organize interactive empowering activities and; team sports, providing rule explanation, ensure fair play during the game design, and deliver engaging online sessions that accommodates youth diverse cultural backgrounds.
o Enjoy challenge of connecting with youth audience.
o Be able to promote social learning opportunities and be socially connected with new immigrant youth.
o Basic to advance knowledge of Zoom app and/or other platforms.
o Some knowledge with virtual interactive games application.
o Can communicate with parents, providing updates and addressing inquiries about the camp.
o Can collaborate effectively with other Camp Counsellors to ensure campers are safe.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants must be between 18 to 30 years of age.
- Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act 2. And be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations. Students on exchange and do not hold permanent residency are not eligible.
- A valid police clearance within last year if 18 years or older
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 weeks
Salary: $17.50 per hour
