Job Description
What you can expect in a typical day:
As a summer student with Irving Oil you will have an opportunity to learn in a collaborative environment with one of Canada's Top 100 employers! In this role at the Saint John Refinery with our R efinery Emergency Services team, you will assist our Fire Chief, Emergency Response (ER) Trainer, and ER Shift Specialists in ensuring the performance and readiness of our emergency response equipment. You will learn about the fire protection equipment used at our Refinery, Canaport Mispec, and East Saint John Terminals as well as equipment carried on all our emergency response vehicles.
In this role you will take part in morning meetings and assist the ER Team with various tasks suck as: equipment checks, fire hose testing, labeling assets such as hydrants, assisting and taking part in exercises, auditing such things as hydrants, fire box contents, extinguishers. You will also assist in reviews and building of pre-plans and testing building evacuation documents.
You will also take part in the Pre-Start-up safety Review ( PSSR ) process and Management of Change ( MOC ) process on our sites.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Safety as a core value mindset ; follow all safety protocols and procedures
- Ab ility to collaborate with both ER and Operations in a Team environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Creative thinker; problem solver
Professional skills :
- Knowledge of MS Office and Excel
- Knowledge of Google Earth Pro would be an asset
- Able to bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl etc., and able to lift up to 20lbs (Some of the workload includes moving heavy equipment)
- Comfortable with high elevation climbing, working at heights and confined spaces
- Ab le to wear full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required by safety standards
- Valid Canadian driver's license
Travel
- Travel is not a requirement for this role
Education and Experience:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program
- Must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and be returning to school in the Fall 2023
