What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:- Assist in planning and supervision of the maintenance plan for the building and property of the Ontario Police College
- Participate in the identification of project priorities, and in the development of short- and long-term facilities objectives, service standards, and program-related policies and procedures
- Respond to staff needs and inquiries, ensuring optimum service delivery
- Provide group leadership to assigned maintenance mechanic staff by setting work priorities, assigning, monitoring and reviewing work, providing technical advice, and recording attendance
- Negotiate service contracts with contractors, including hazardous waste disposal and firing ranges maintenance, in accordance with established policy and/or guidelines
- Plan and prepare facilities management budget forecasts, operating project budgets and expenditures
- Administer security services contracts
- Perform routine and occasional non-routine maintenance duties
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
- You must be able to pass an OPP background security investigation.
Knowledge
You have knowledge of: - accommodation/facilities management including applicable security policies, procedures, principals and standards to coordinate and manage facility projects
- space standards, barrier-free design requirements, energy conservation and ergonomics; occupational health and safety legislation; relevant building codes, standards and acts governing building construction and the trades, to ensure compliance/conformance throughout the facilities management process
- planning and project management methodologies, practices and procedures
- financial policies and procedures to plan and monitor operating and project budgets
- organizational and coordination methods and techniques to oversee various services and the activities of assigned staff
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
You have:- oral communication and interpersonal skills to provide assistance to clients, liaise with local Ontario Realty Corporation personnel, discuss capital projects with service providers; and to liaise with the property management service provider regarding third party leases
- oral communication skills to negotiate service contracts with contractors
- written communication skills to prepare correspondence on behalf of senior staff, project proposals, reports and draft facilities policies and procedures
Problem Solving Skills:
You are able to:- identify and resolve ongoing problems, and addresses complaints and concerns associated with service delivery
- oversee project needs assessments, and determines resource, cost and other requirements to meet project objectives
- take corrective action with respect to contractual issues with service providers
Other Skills:
You have:- problem-solving skills to assess, plan, and discuss facility's maintenance/renovation needs with the Manager
- the ability to detect, investigate, and troubleshoot a variety of maintenance issues
