Key Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s largest high-grade uranium mill. The Role
Reporting to the Chief Chemist, the Supervisor plans, organizes, supervises, and controls activities related to his/her assignments. You will be responsible for managing all laboratory equipment's and employees in the lab. Duties are, but not limited to creating schedules for work rotation and ordering parts and consumables in the lab. You will also assist the Chief Chemist in managing and maintaining service contracts, plan and organize transport for service technicians/engineers. The Supervisor is responsible for producing quality analyses, strongly follow the QA/QC program, maintain excellent work environment in his/her group to meet employee satisfaction in terms of safety, training, recognition, and empowerment, and for continuously improving productivity. Lastly, in this leadership role you will establish a culture of operational excellence and uphold Cameco's values.
In this role, you will:
- Supervises all day-to-day Laboratory activities, lead and oversees a team of Lab Technicians, Technologists and Projects.
- Ensures all Laboratory Policies, Quality Control Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and Work instructions are accurate, up-to-date, and adhered to.
- Provides leadership handling process deviations and data/result nonconformities.
- Manages the calibration schedules for all Laboratory and Quality Control equipment, including coordinating services with external providers.
- Maintains the laboratory inventory and orders supplies as required.
- Ensures all Quality records and documentation are accurately completed and stored.
- Ensures all employees are following prescribed PPE safety requirements for their assigned work area and consistently promotes a safe working environment.
- Hold regular meetings with members of his/her group to promote cooperation and team effort.
- Follow duties as assigned.
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical Technology Diploma/Certificate.
- 8+ years’ experience as a laboratory supervisor or senior laboratory role.
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered. Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
Recommended:
- Excellent verbal and communication skills with the ability to speak and present to key decision-makers, both internally and externally, as required.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory methodologies and interpretation of data and results.
- Competence in calibration, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Sound knowledge of Quality Management System (QMS) and Quality Control practices.
- Advanced experience in the use of Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and TEAMS.
- Experienced with LIMS and SAP are an asset.
- Ability to prioritize and balance required tasks with sensitivity to time, resources, and budget.
- Ability to work efficiently in a team environment, as well as under minimal supervision.
- Leadership courses are an asset.
