Position Summary
Reporting to the Dean or designate and in collaboration with the Teaching Kitchen Technician and Culinary faculty, the Teaching Kitchen Support position is responsible for providing assistance with various aspects of the Cafe operations, including cashier duties, customer service, food and beverage service, supporting product availability and quality control, and assisting the Teaching Kitchen Technician with various tasks.
The Teaching Kitchen Support is aware of the Mission and Values of North Island College, incorporating and practicing the values in everything they do.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Provides cashier functions, including daily cash outs and deposits.
2. Ensures products in Cafe are stocked and organized for sale.
3. Performs customer service and support food and beverages services.
4. Monitors the service area for cleanliness, orderly conduct and general maintenance.
5. Ensures order, cleanliness and safe practices in the servery.
6. Assists with the general receiving of goods and ensures HACCP standards are met.
7. Performs dishwasher duties.
8. Assists with ordering supplies and counting inventory.
9. Serves customers and provides relevant information to the kitchen team, as required.
10. Serves and assists with Teaching Kitchen related aspects of special functions, including catering and buffets.
11. Performs other related duties as identified by the Teaching Kitchen Technician.

Required Education & Experience
1. Grade 12, plus training on POS systems (e.g. Squirrel).
2. Must possess Level 1 FoodSafe Certificate.
3. At least 2 years’ experience in the food and catering industry.

1. Understanding of basic math and knowledge of cash balancing and deposit procedures.
2. Excellent customer service skills.
3. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills including the ability to establish rapport with students and other clientele and to deal with different personalities and behaviours.
4. Ability to respond to multiple demands within a high stress environment and to work well under pressure.
5. Understanding of the requirements of a safe physical working environment.
6. Ability to meet the physical demands of the job which include heavy lifting and being on foot the full shift.
