As a Traffic Engineering Technician 1, you will provide support and assistance under the direction of the Leader, Traffic Design. You will be supporting designs that are being delivered by Public Spaces Delivery. Primary duties include:
- Research and identify problems; prepare signage and road marking plans (temporary and permanent) for a variety of interesting projects, ranging from new bike infrastructure to urban main streets.
- Respond to concerns of the general public, elected officials and other City staff received from Project Managers. Provide responses in writing (e-mail or technical memorandum) or verbally.
- Coordinate and develop temporary traffic control plans.
- Perform data collection and analysis to support design decisions by engineering staff.
Qualifications
- A completed 2-year Technical Engineering diploma and at least 1 year of Traffic Engineering Technician experience.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending is required.
- Knowledge of and experience using AutoCAD software is essential.
- Knowledge of Traffic Engineering, experience with Geographic Information System (GIS), and experience working with AGi32 on roadway lighting design will be considered assets.
- Success in this position requires excellent communication skills, strong customer focus, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
Working Conditions: Primarily an office environment with some exposure to various weather conditions, heavy traffic, and active construction sites.
